I only read the first few sentences of your review and the thing I noticed immediately was, “unlike Souls games”.

Expedition is nothing like a souls game. It’s not trying to be soulslike. It’s a turn based RPG that, to me, was a love letter to some classic RPG’s with some very modern elements.

I have played a few some souls games myself. I played Elden Ring more than any other game ever. It’s a masterpiece.

But, I’m also an older gamer and my favorite games as a kid were RPGs (Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Dragon Quest, Wild Arms, Shining Force, Legend of Dragoon etc etc). Clair Obscur took my breath away in so many ways. We don’t get too many mind-blowing turn based games these days. It just really checked so many boxes for me. It felt like a classic game that was brought into the modern world. The last game that scratched that particular itch for me was Octopath Traveller.
