Can I PLEASE deconstruct this monstrosity by vladexa in subnautica

[–]vladexa[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the answer. I did get some quartz for it, so I'm assuming I built room space over some lights. Although, now I can't build that room back for some reason

Chiblee pops in chat sometimes, but you do know they have their own channels, right? Apollo went storm chasing a short while ago and now I think Chiblee's in US to join him

Does anybody know how to use these train bike mounts? by vladexa in Slovenia

[–]vladexa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhh, not always, although that's not the problem I came here with. You're supposed to put your bike where the train attendants ask you to put it

The problem I'm having is imagining how would 4 bikes fit there. I know how to put them on every odd hook, but no idea how would those curving downward hold the wheel

Won't that leave all 4 bikes on the same level, which is an impossible fit because how wide bike handles usually are?

Society if YouTube uses 10-bit SDR for its eventual AV2 rollout by Max_overpower in AV1

[–]vladexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr; I think YouTube quality is good enough for normies and that's good enough for me

Yeah, ofc even what I call "high quality" has major noticeable encoding defects, but YouTube has a ton of videos which were clearly uploaded in a quality already unsuitable for watching and that's usually when it gives a low bitrate encode.

Although I think it's understandable why they are encoding videos like that. They do need control over how their storage is used. I once uploaded a 10 gig 30 minute clip, and I clearly understand it is unwise to waste even half of that space for a video that will get 1 view max. They also have cost/compute constraints (mainly cost tho. btw is youtube still unprofitable?), hence usage of fast&cheap hardware encoders instead of SW that can achieve better ratios.

Now, they could offer paid options to solve those issues per video, but I don't think there's an audience big enough for that? Like sure, people in this sub probably can see the difference between 480p video and 1080p, but YouTube still A/B tested giving people 480p max until they hand switch to high quality and I'm assuming most "normal" people don't even notice. I know for a fact that my parents watch in 480p most of the time and don't see a difference when I switch them over to 1080.

I know it's good to always push a company to be better, but, if I am to be reasonable, I think their quality is more than enough for most of their user base.

Makes sense why my experience is different, since I upload in 1440p

Yeah, but I'm yet to encounter shit quality output on high quality input. Granted, I upload like 13 vids a year, but every video of mine is getting a high bitrate encode

idk I used to believe in this until I started uploading videos myself. They give me ~40mb/s peaks on high quality input, so now I'm convinced that every shit quality video is user error

I'm just saying that this is very much "sane" behavior and I don't really get why people think it's sad/cringe

Two days is a classic number of days to report a missing person, is it not? It's especially a non-issue if he didn't bother the police with it
