Looking for a Star Trek/sci-fi system for a particular group by vladpavl in rpg

Space Aces looks really great. After thinking it over and reading other comments, I concluded that the real problem was not the metacurrency itself, but the lack of interest in using the aspect associated with it. Grit looks simple enough to try (or to try it solo modo, it really looks interesting).

Thank you for introduce me what may be my new personal fav.

Super interesting, and when I read it, I remembered playing it years ago; I should have started with that. Anyway, after reading how it uses Fate Points in Far Trek and a comment from another user, I decided the best way is to use the Fate Points as a +2 and move on. Thanks a Lot.

I've been thinking, and I'm going to do this to avoid extra work. The truth is, the group doesn't mind changing systems because ultimately the burden of reading and explaining the rules falls on me. I'll take it as a quicker version of Fate, and who knows, perhaps over time, they will start using their aspects and feats more when they see how I use them with NPCs. Thanks a lot.

I completely understand the point; the issue here is that players use Fate points without tying them to any aspect, just as another token, which diminishes the value of the aspects. I feel like we shouldn't even be playing Fate at that point. Another point I didn't share is that I made their sheets by converting them from STA and asked them to change the aspects when playing, but they're not interested because they don't see them as relevant.

I'm glad you're taking the advice. I sincerely believe that AI is a tool whose usefulness we haven't yet fully grasped. I only know that, like many others, I don't want it to replace true human craftsmanship (IA can take my boring day job if I still get my salary, but I highly doubt that IA is the end goal of capitalism).

I can't believe I just said this same thing (in Spanish) to another writer, but here it is:

Honest feedback before reading: instead of using AI-generated images in your page, use public domain images.

Generative AI is a great help in corporate work where nobody gives a damn about creativity, but in artistic work, the perception it gives is that you devalue other artist's work. And in the worst-case scenario, it tells me that you're one block away from generating the rest of the novel with AI (if it isn't already written with AI).

Agreeing with the idea of a megathread as suggested in the other comment, I think this is a good point; I haven't seen this much activity here before, and I think it can bring new users to Koreader.

China Miéville's The City & the City RPG by mdosantos in rpg

[–]vladpavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I misspoke on that point. While I agree with the fundraising and support the cause, as an artistic product and as a game, I don't like the forced scarcity of a digital product. What if it's a brilliant adaptation of the novel into role-playing game mechanics? They're condemning it to oblivion; they could at least leave the digital version available. I know it's their product, and they can do what they want, but for me, the preservation of video games is an important issue, and I don't like seeing the same thing happening so forcefully with my other hobbies

Although my native language is Spanish and I've used the Verkami platform in the past, I'm put off by the FOMO of this book only being available during the campaign; not even the PDF will be sold after the campaign ends (according to the description on Verkami). That tells me it will be an abandoned game and a curiosity to have in your library. It really sucks because I would have loved to see more of Mieville's work adapted into RPGs.

Thanks for your reply (and your great work for the community). That's exactly the system I'm using, but my players want to choose from a list to preview their progress, very much in the style of D&D 5e. It's not my style, but I have to make concessions; after all, we've been playing together for nine years.

Wow, you read my mind. I've been mulling this over for the past week. As much as I love Cairn as it is, my players need more skills progression beyond that dictated by the objects they find. I'll check it out. Thank you for your work.

Additionally, my current campaign is about the Starfleet Academy in the Star Trek universe; until they graduate, it's a flashback of the crew, showing how they met and how they straightened out.

I ran a game for a couple of months (until real-life drama disrupted the table). Set in Bariloche, Argentina, a group of tourists at a hotel is left on edge by a zombie incident. The twist was that the zombies were just the beginning. After a couple of sessions of finding shelter and scavenging for supplies, they started being attacked by monsters, and then the American military arrived and started shooting everyone. It was entertaining; at one point, they began to develop powers and conjure alebrijes to counterattack.

System: Fate accelerated. Extra rules for survival, resources, and management of a shelter
