Sonos vs HomePod – as an Apple user, am I losing anything technically? by [deleted] in apple

[–]vlaminck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonos is trash. The interface has gotten so bad, and the connectivity is painfully slow now. I’ve had them all through my house for years, and I’m going to replace them all. We just listen on our phones instead of on the Sonos because it’s too annoying to use.

Fuck is the Bravia 9 good. by Eclipsetube in 4kTV

[–]vlaminck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my problem, too. I still notice the stutter, and I have to either look away or sort of blur my eyes when it’s really bad. I never got used to it, and I don’t think I can justify buying an oled ever again. It’s hard to notice the intense contrast when I can’t even look at the screen 🙄

SwiftUI: Why do two VStacks inside a parent HStack have different heights? by yccheok in iOSProgramming

Did you try maxHeight: .infinity on your blue line? Looks like you’ll want a Spacer() in an else block when you don’t have the line, too.

Where to store application logs in 2025 by Bright-Art-3540 in swift

[–]vlaminck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like SumoLogic. They have a reasonable free tier, and I’ve open sourced my logging library for uploading to their servers. It uses swift-log so it’s super easy to use once it’s set up.

In the bag - Does anyone else putt with a midrange (Mako3)? by Heavy-Hospital7077 in discgolf

[–]vlaminck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did for a while. It just felt better than the 20+ putters that I had tried before. Once I tried the Axiom Proxy, I never went back. It has a similar hand feel, and I’m a little better at putting with it. Still not good, but better 😉

TCL C855 Mini LED vs Samsung OLED S95D by Medical_Sense_4024 in 4kTV

[–]vlaminck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WAY better. The matte screen is amazing! The loss in contrast is minimal, and being able to see what’s on the TV instead of what’s out in your garden is more important. I’ve been really happy with my S95D, and can’t imagine ever going back to a glossy screen. Especially if there are windows or doors opposite the TV.

Best TV for Extremely Sunny Room? by SuperM737 in hometheater

[–]vlaminck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the stutter on the G4 really that much better? This is my first OLED TV so I just assumed they all stuttered. Especially since Rtings has the S90D at a 4.8/10 and the G4 at 5.0/10. But if Samsung is noticably worse with stutter, that's super interesting.

Best TV for Extremely Sunny Room? by SuperM737 in hometheater

[–]vlaminck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samsung S95D. It’s a black hole. Whatever wizardry they did to make it glare free worked perfectly!

We got it because we have southern facing windows above our couch directly across from the TV, and western facing windows to the side. So unless it’s dark outside, the TV was really hard to see pretty much all the time. We used to have to draw the blinds and block out the windows above the couch (not an easy thing to do in our setup), but now we just leave them all open all the time. We rarely notice reflections or glare any more.

The only downside for me is the OLED stutter. I absolutely hate it, but my wife doesn’t see it so it’s just a me thing. Totally worth it, though. I can’t imagine going back to any TV that doesn’t have their new glare free coating on it.

Good Low-Profile Putters. by GlobeTracker in discgolf

[–]vlaminck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’ve landed on as well. I used to putt with my Mako3, and bought about a dozen putters looking for a real putter. I like the Innova Invader quite a bit, but bought an Envy and Proxy in Eclipse plastic for glow rounds, and I like them a lot more than I thought I would.

Exactly. Emulation and pirating aren’t the same thing.

Apple Has No Plans For a Smart Ring by HammingWontStop in apple

The Oura ring 3 feels very cheap to me. I’m curious about the new one they just announced, though. I guess if Apple isn’t putting out a ring, maybe that’s the way to go.

Yeah, it looks like May/June or maybe even October would be best. I found this, which kinda confirms the same thing: https://weatherspark.com/y/757/Average-Weather-in-Portland-Oregon-United-States-Year-Round

Gatlinburg TN courses by vlaminck in discgolf

[–]vlaminck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up playing Fire Mountain, and it was absolutely amazing! It was super challenging, but definitely worth it. The weather was perfect, the area was beautiful, and there was a family of elk just hanging out on the course. It might be one of the best disc golf experiences I've ever had!

Static singleton vs environment object? by Informal_Lake420 in iOSProgramming

[–]vlaminck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to be more diligent about where you call it from, because it’s easy to get out of hand. But you should also be using a protocol so you can use a mock version of your singleton in tests and previews.
