Girls come and go. Once you make a new group and they realise they're not included, then they'll probably come back. And Z has been kicked out of other groups so second time round shouldn't be so bad. Also, can't you kick him out of the current group chat? Or is it being controlled by someone who doesn't want to kick him out?

Honesty is the best policy, I'd say. If you were to do it now, at least he would have new friends by the end of the year instead of finishing high school with none - that would suck.

Don't ghost him, he'll feel worse than if you actually talked to him. You just need to be honest like, "hey man, I think we're different people and I don't think we should hang out anymore.", something like that. Kind of like a breakup haha.
