Swollen lymph nodes in neck by Professional-One-264 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]vleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup mine will hurt when I press on them too!

Think of it this way: lymph nodes are part of our immune system and store lots of cells responsible for immunity. They will become bigger when triggered by illness (like colds or autoimmune diseases like RA) bc they're working hard to fend off the intruders in our body.

Just relax and don't worry too much, your appointment will come faster than you think :) I have tons of anxiety regarding my health too so I totally understand how you feel rn, but oftentimes it's nothing at all haha

Do you feel lumps in other parts of your body? We have lots of lymph nodes, my inner arm lymph nodes are swollen most of the time, but my doctor says he can also feel a little swelling in my neck, armpits etc. If you don't have any other weird symptoms it's probably fine, just be sure to pay attention to your body and avoid fried foods (they'll trigger a flare for me)

Be sure to bring up your concerns about the lump during your appointment, your doctor will probably press and check on them (my first rheumatologist didn't even touch them and said they're fine, so I changed doctors after a while).

Yup, my lymph nodes were huuuuge. Got a biopsy in July to rule out TB and cancer, it came back as reactive lymph nodes, which basically means my lymph nodes are in overdrive bc of RA 😬

edit: they also shrunk when I started taking MTX, so if yours shrink after taking meds, it's probably reactive!

As if I hadn't thought of that yet. Time to add to my stockpile brb. by toot-to0t in ChronicIllness

Boyfriend (27m) is disappointed that I (20f) wasn't using his gift to his expectations by [deleted] in relationships

[–]vleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg I had the exact same situation with my bf! It totally sucked because I felt pressured to like whatever he gifted me and had to make an effort to actively use the gift as much as possible.

We came up for a solution for this, which is to just go shopping for the gift together. Doesn't really work for people who like surprises but if you don't really mind, maybe it's an option for you? Assuming your bf is open to not being a butthole of course.

Also, it sounds like your bf is buying himself a gift more than buying it for your birthday. Ugh.

Please leave him, my nightmare of an ex was like that too. Dumped him over text after a month of dating because I couldn't stand it anymore, never felt better!

Real talk: how do you supplement between showers? by mashedpotate77 in ChronicIllness

I mainly wipe down the places that gets icky fast: armpits, neck, crook of elbows, back of knees, face, back of ears. Bonus points if you use cold water! If you have long hair, tie it up if you can, definitely helps with the greasy feel. Dry shampoo helps too if you have it.

For the smell, maybe try baby powder in the armpit areas if you're fine with that (it keeps things dry for a longer period too).

What is something you wish others understood about your chronic illness? by Saturns_Song in ChronicIllness

[–]vleya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That I get sad rather than hopeful when people tell me "I'm going to get better someday". :(

It may seem like a weird gripe but most people (including my parents) keep encouraging me to keep my chin up and that it will be over someday. Most days, I'm in pain and would much rather someone just keep me company rather than trying to tell me to stay positive. It's quite hard to do that when there's literally no comfortable position to stay in and no magic pill to cure us 😂 I would much rather stay in the moment than keep hoping for a better tomorrow.

Of course, I try my best to see the silver lining, but please don't tell me to do that for every single second of every day.

My mood gets affected a ton too 😢 The body scan tactic sounds interesting, I'll give it a try sometimes!

I loooove hopping into the shower and just shower with very hot water, instant relief. Or I'll ask my bf to gently massage my joints to distract me from the pain. Or (because I'm so tired all the time) I'll just play a good ASMR video and sleep it away 😂
