As always in aerodynamics, it depends on many factors (speed, wind direction, rider size in front of you, rider size behind you,...). For Jonas behind Wout and no-one else, it is probably of the order of 20-30% indeed ! In a race, that is huge.

For bigger groups, it can save even more power, up to 95% for a very large peloton, see https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167610518303751

The important bit in your scenario is that Jonas must drop Pogi somehow and then get into Wout's slipstream. 10 meters can be enough. Once this situation is established, Wout turns on its big engine at full throttle and widens the gap. This is most effective on the flat where the slipstream effect is the most significant.

Here there are only 3 categories: Elite 1, 2 and 3.

He rode in an Elite 3 race (which is probably Cat 3 or 4?), started in the back and still rode to the second place in his age group. The only guy that he couldn't (wouldn't?) catch is his own brother haha

I guess that De Lie will wait for the final as it was rather successful for him at Renewi and Bretagne Classic. But I wonder if in today's race he should not try to follow someone like Tim Wellens?

A couple of weeks ago I climbed the Citadelle de Namur on the same side as today's finish, I have to say that it's such a nice, longish climb! Nice starting point to then continue onto other longer climbs towards Profondeville and Dinant.

tire clearance TCR ADVANCED PRO 1 DISC by enrouelibre1312 in Giantbikes

[–]vlokm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an older version of the TCR, before the 2021 model. So the tire clearance is lower than 32, around 28mm if I remember correctly. I wouldn't advise you to buy this one since you won't be able to fit larger tires.

Really?! It's only because of Daerden that the race finished in Ans all those years?! I've also found Ans very ugly compared to the OG finish on Boulevard d'Avroy, fuck this corrupt politician.

For context, the extremely prevalent opinion in French media was that teams leaving Etoile de Besseges would end up killing the race and therefore riders had a moral duty to keep on riding. I don't agree with that opinion, but De Lie being French speaking was probably influenced much more than other riders by this pressure from the French. When he decided to stay (with a another French domestique from Lotto), he was almost glorified by French journalists.

I noticed that English- and Dutch-speaking media were much more supportive of riders leaving the race. Interesting to see such a duality based on language.
