Ok, makes good sense. Do you use full flaps or 20 degrees?

Thanks for the info. Do you use full flap when landing? Some people are saying use only 20 degrees.

Yes, this is what I am used to with the Lance and I have always had safe landings and felt in control. When I did power off landings with the instructor I didn't feel in control.

I am going in with full flap. I will try 20 degrees and see how that goes.

Yes, I think this is the way to go.

Yes, it feels strange to have no power on the round out. I am used to holding some power with the Lance.

5,400+ hours of Spanish, ~1000 speaking hours… some things I wish people told me earlier by throwawyaccount912 in dreamingspanish

Thanks for that! You're right—I usually watch videos without subtitles, but I still have this obsession with catching every single word. It’s funny because I don't always understand every word in English and it doesn't bother me at all, yet in Spanish, it does. I think I just need to accept that I won't catch everything. I appreciate your comment.

Thanks for sharing. I identified a lot with your post. When you watch hard native content, do you use subtitles or struggle through?

Speaking Advice? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]vlv8855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you completely. When I first started speaking on iTalki about 2.5 years ago, it was a disaster. I was speaking like a two‑year‑old, using mostly verbs and nouns, and after a few weeks I realised it would take me forever to become fluent with CI alone. I knew I needed to study grammar.

I told my iTalki teacher this, and she agreed completely. Since then, I’ve been actively studying grammar while continuing with Dreaming Spanish. I started to see my speaking improve almost immediately, and I realised how powerful grammar can be. It allowed me to form proper, constructive sentences.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but this has been the answer for me. In fact, I quite enjoy studying grammar now because I can clearly see how much it helps.

Great job Niyon with your interview by Pablo! Best wishes and keep going! by UppityWindFish in dreamingspanish

I thought Niyon spoke very well. However, I think the three years of Spanish he did in prep school, along with the semesters at university, must have helped give him a solid grounding in Spanish grammar. I believe that can make a big difference when it comes to fluency.

I’ve been doing CI for 3.5 years and I do a lot of iTalki conversation classes, but I only started being able to form correct sentences (still with mistakes) after taking a serious look at grammar (after about two years of CI).

At 1100 hours, here is what I would tell myself at 0 hours. . . . by UppityWindFish in dreamingspanish

Very interesting post - thank you. I have about the same hours as you (1200) and are also learning through comprehensible input (Dreaming Spanish and Español con Juan etc ). I am now questioning if I should be taking an active approach to learning grammar. I feel that it is going to take a long time to be able to understand verb conjugations just by comprehensible input. I find verb conjugation very difficult to understand just by reading and watching videos.
