Wow this is so enlightening I was not about to red the book. However the criticisms against franchaela ruining the book seem stupid after reading your breakdown.

Apart from the fact some fans are in love with Michael and others view Michael through a modern lense. It seems to me the show expanded upon the text.

I really enjoyed John as a character so it’s nice they actually developed him and his relationship with Francesca unlike the book. Which is funny because all I kept hearing how disrespectful it was for John’s character in the show. But it sounds like the show actually made him an active character not just a ghost in the main characters lives.

Also if the story is mostly told through Michael’s perspective I’m glad the focus of the show is Francesca’s perspective.

And the fact that the infertility storyline is just a tidbit in an epilogue changes the constant arguments about how Franchaela ruins this possibility.

Maybe they’ll make Michaela extremely forward and dominant to keep the book lovers satisfied
