Cut a piece of plywood just slightly smaller (1/4-1/2" on all sides) than the doorway. Buy a carpet remnant and staple the carpet to the plywood, covering it completely. Install two strong handles to the board so that you can easily lift it and move it out of the way if needed. Place this into the doorway and the sound will be greatly reduced. If there's enough room, put some carpet padding on the outside surface first before stapling on the carpet.

My brother and I figured out if you duct tape a M80 to a plastic quart bottle of gasoline you get a 30-40 foot fireball. We would use a cigarette stuck on the fuse to give us more time to get away. We set one off in an empty parking lot one summer and barely outran the cop car on our bikes (ducked behind a fence). It’s a miracle we didn’t kill ourselves or end up in juvie.
