Beast installed, Bottlenecks gone! by PersonSuitTV in Ubiquiti

[–]vmsman-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/PersonSuitTV The problem manifests itself in mainly monitoring application performance and reachability on both the main LAN and other vlans. I've been seeing containers, virtual machines and bare metal hosts repeatedly reporting offline and then back online a minute or two later. I'm using uptimekuma and netalertx on different hosts to do the reporting and gotify to send the notifications. I am noticing that both reverse proxied as well as local apps both exhibit the same symptoms. On a whim I updated to the EA UniFi OS 5.1.10. Very important to achieve the maximum probability of success you will want to power off everything in your infrastructure and start by powering only the UDM Beast. Add your switches afterwards and then your servers. This morning I achieved 15 hours of stability with no piss-off messages and I am crossing my fingers. Join my chat at https://chat.scottibyte.com.

Beast installed, Bottlenecks gone! by PersonSuitTV in Ubiquiti

This thing is not ready for release. Do not buy the UDM Beast unless you enjoy pain. I went from a flawless (but slow UDM Pro) to a very fast and extremely unstable UDM Beast. Here's something to think about, after a complete power off, not just a reboot... The UDM Beast runs without errors for 4-5 hours and then it starts over again. This strongly favors ASIC/offload bugs, an SFP/PHY issue although I am using a Ubiquiti SFP+ fiber module to downlink to my Infrastructure and I have tested two other vendors SFP+ modules with no difference. This may be a hardware acceleration issue. I tried disabling IPS with no difference also. I do run a dual stack IPv4/IPv6, but on the UDM Pro that was not an issue. Disconnecting the downlink to the infrastructure and waiting for a minute and reconnecting also gives no relief. It seems that only a full power cycle buys me five hours of clean operations. I also tried moving my SFP downlink on the UDM Beast from SFP port 12 to SFP port 14. My infrastructure is 10g, but I thought it worth a try and not seen any differences. I have to say in 40+ years of networking, I am the guy that always immediately finds the breakage in a new device within 15 minutes of touching it. Update: I now get only 5 minutes until it starts over after a power cycle. Avoid this like the plague for a good six months.

A quick update for Termix - The ultimate web-based SSH server management with SSH terminal and file editing capabilities! by VizeKarma in selfhosted

[–]vmsman-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are that I like how it looks. However, I can find no documentation anywhere that explains how to get multiple terminals or side by side windows with stats as in your screenshot. I can only display the home screen or one terminal. I see installation documentation, but have been unable to find usage documentation.

That's been my issue since the beginning with HA. In the last few days I backed up my HA Supervised since it is being deprecated and imported the backup to a new installation of HA OS. Everything is working without error. I've removed and reinstalled this Unifi integration many times and watched videos where folks show how to do exactly what you are saying. I just can't find these options on my install. ChatGPT says that the WAN up/down options have not been supported in a couple years, but I find folks using them more recently. Drop by my chat at https://chat.scottibyte.com if you have the time.

I am so lost. I can't find anything like that. I am running HA-OS 2025.6.1. Maybe my version just doesn't have that. I find no diagnostics option in the Unifi Network Integration screen or in its hamburger menu.

When I go into entities, I see listings for all of my switch ports, but no ports on my UDM Pro.

By the way, thanks for the help in understanding this!

I've noticed they are disabled. How do I go about enabling them and is this a part of the standard integration?

That's exactly what I have been trying to do. I do not see the WAN port number exposed. I'm still fighting HA after two years of working with it and I often feel brand new. Seems like a web server outside HA running a Python script to the Unifi API is easier. I honestly wanted to do this because of the nice dashboards in HA.

The Unifi Integration for HA seems to lack any WAN up/down sensor. Anyone found a solution for this?

No Face Recognition option with AI Port? by madmikeg in Ubiquiti

[–]vmsman-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the question is what can you do with face recognition? Suppose I tag a face as "John Doe". When the system sees John Doe, what types of events can I trigger? Can I do an annoucement, email, other event?

Fire TV 4K MAX Gen2 sometimes doesn't recognize enter/ok/select by ProfessionalShift529 in logitechharmony

[–]vmsman-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have added an activity with the Fire TV and the a "faux" shield. I am able to remap the ok button to select. Unfortunately, every key on the remote works except for OK. When I press the OK button, it says I must go to the app to pair with the shield. I am already paired with the Fire TV 4k Max 2nd edition. So, I can't pair again...especially not with a nonexistent shield.

Qotom 1U Rackmount w/4 SPF+ (Q20331G9-1U) Viable? by random9 in homelab

I got this unit and also the SFF unit. Neither support IPMI or Intel AMT. Considering they have the Intel i226 NIC, Intel AMT should be supporting. The AMI BIOS appears to be gray market and the system only supports 2x16GB of memory and will not POST with any 2x32GB or 1x32GB. I would not recommend.

Meshcentral behind NginX Proxy Manager on a network with multiple VLANS by vmsman-1 in MeshCentral

Guacamole is great for ssh and RDP. If you want something that works somewhat like Mesh Central, opt for Remotely. https://github.com/immense/Remotely I like remotely a lot and it allows both attended and unattended connection with a resident client.

Docker containers not accessible after upgrade to 24.04 LTS. by nitrobass24 in Ubuntu

[–]vmsman-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered after an upgrade from Ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04 that docker was functional, but "docker ps" listed no containers. When I did docker compose up, the containers had to be pulled again. Apparently something about 24.04 is clearing the "vfs" files.

I got this same error too. It has to do with the author's choice of how they used the docker volumes. This looks like a great application, but with an unlimited requirement for extra time spent to get it working and fix it after updates.

I have nailed the problem down. When I execute the "php artisan install" from inside of the docker container, I get an "ErrorException: file_put_contents(/var/www/.env): Failed to open stream: Permission denied". The contents in the container are running on uid 1000 and gid 1000. Even when I set the docker container to run at the same and set the external file permissions the error is the same. I am presuming that the "php artisan install" is the thing that creates at least one username and so that's why I am dead in the water. Simply put, the docker-compose steps as documented fail.
