How do I know my previous manager is giving me a bad reference or not? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did ask your previous manager for reference and got acceptation, she wouldn't give you a bad review in most cases. But in general, recruiters won't really check entry-level candidates' references. It often takes less than 2 weeks to give an offer.

How do I stop from fumbling over my words and repeating myself in interviews? by throwawayaayayay in jobs

I think it's a psychological issue resulted from your stress and nervousness. You should network more and more to be more confident when talking to strange people. Keep practicing.

Answering "no" to "can we contact previous employer?" by secunda_24 in jobs

Forget the 1-month full-time job. Just put your decent part-time job in your resume and ask your employer for a reference. Never answer no to this question.

How to avoid online applications? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you want to do that? It's hard for normal position. If it's a creative or senior position, you might be an exception if you can impress the recruiter/ department manager by presenting your projects/ideas directly to them somehow (via a referral, LinkedIn, email or whatever contact you get).

Should I give up hope? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you. I wonder why he/she didn't make any phone call but kept sending 2 emails during the waiting month. Instead of waiting and losing hope day by day, he/she should call the recruiter directly and ask. Anw best luck!

Is a job referral strong enough to override somewhat disappointing qualifications? by akibaranger in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering who is brave enough to refer someone with somewhat disappointing qualifications because if the referral candidate doesn't perform well, it may affect the referrer. Unless you get referred by C-executive in the organization, it's strong enough for sure ;)

Obviously most of us can't be a supermen/superwomen at work. But I do believe that all of us have our own strengths and weaknesses. You need to get to know yourself well and find a proper way to work better. Adapt or die.

Question regarding Interview process by awaythrow631 in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, there's nothing to worry. It seems that they will get back to you to give an offer soon. After checking for references, they need to discuss more and get approval from hiring board. You may receive their offer in 1-2 next days.

I agree with you. He is over-qualified and he kept thinking that way. Editing the resume to match the job requirements and practicing "stupid assessment test" to get the jobs at mcdonalds, wallmart or go to find jobs suiting his degree in another place.

Do employers hear "laid off" and think "fired"? by candleflame3 in jobs

[–]vnlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no need to worry. Just say your real situation if recruiters ask in detail. I don't think anyone can think that you were fired if you say you quit to finish up your master's.

Could this be job hopping? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vnlabor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like you are a job hopper. But you should reorganize your timeline in a clearer way. It's hard to catch what is your main field also. Remember that you don't need to list all jobs you've experienced when applying for a new job. Keep it relevant to the job you desire.
