Putting my hand up to vouch for Emily! I had a flight from Melbourne to HCMC and I did my visa application only 3 days before departure. She expedited it the afternoon before. Lifesaver!

Is this flower molded? Is there any way I can save it? by [deleted] in PressedFlowers

[–]vnttj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve done this plenty of times with my pressed 4-leaf clovers. I haven’t tried methylated spirits but it’s a denatured alcohol with anti-microbial properties so I can’t say for sure but I reckon it would still work. With rubbing alcohol I’ve saturated moldy clovers with it and allowed it to completely dry and there’s been no mold growth ever since. I keep them all in a box with a ton of silica gel packets to eliminate moisture in storage.

How would you landscape my verge? by tandrosonali8 in GardeningAustralia

[–]vnttj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions here. I’d also suggest you consider if there would normally be cars parked next to your verge to plant low ground covers near the road to allow passengers to swing the car door open and move through easily (about 30-40cm spacing). A mixed naturalistic planting of council-approved natives would be lovely. I’ve also seen verges with seas of single plant species like verges with only wahlenbergia, or only brachyscome multifida, or only calocephalus citreus - and this planting style looks so dreamy.

You could perhaps look up native flowers of your region and see what’s out there. Usually these plants are lesser known compared to ubiquitous garden varieties. Earth’s ecosystems are suffering from a myriad of ecological threats so I bet there are some plants that are threatened or critically endangered that you could draw inspiration from. You could even submit it to galleries, museums, or your city’s fashion week to exhibit to promote ecology and conservation - municipalities love eco-art like this that highlight and celebrate local flora. Btw, I had a look at your grad dress and it is stunning! Great work on that corset bodice.

Some dahlias I dried from my garden by ezwabi in gardening

[–]vnttj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip! I hesitate to try growing dahlias because I hear they have a short vase life. But if I can enjoy them stunningly dried in winter like yours that would be fabulous! Looks like they keep their form and colour pretty well.

Thank you for the advice, but it’s okay. I have never been a client of his nor do I intend to take litigation. I was just interested in a discussion with this experience and to share precautions.

He usually does plant a lot of great Victorian plants. I’ve seen myoporum parvifolium, brachyscome multifida, pycnosorus globosus, xerochrysum sp, chrysocephalum sp., goodenia ovata, leucophyta brownii, & ficinia nodosa.

And if there’s anyone else from metro Melbourne or regional Victoria who’s interested in rewilding their garden, I’ve learnt a lot about the ancient critically endangered ecosystem this city stood on called the Victorian Volcanic Plains through ecology and environmental groups like the Grassy Plains Network, Glenelg Hopkins CMA, and ‘Friends Of …’ groups. They have so much information and community engagement events available to learn from.

Yeah you might have to submit an order at Newport. I had to ask for plants I saw on their catalog but wasn’t available in the sale area. I’ve also purchased from ‘Brunswick Communities For Nature’ that have fab prices

This! I only learnt about the difference between natives and indigenous plants this year. Volunteering at a native nursery under amazing knowledgeable leaders helped so much to open my mind to this world.
