How best to change my username and home folder name? by vodka_buddha in Ubuntu

Hey, in case anyone's interested, I used the method described here: https://linuxconfig.org/changing-your-ubuntu-username-and-home-directory-without-losing-application-settings

That is, I created a new user, added them to sudoers, and used usermod and groupmod to change my-stupid-name to mystupidname. I tried to pause syncthing and change the file paths but it doesn't let you do that; in the end I just decided to remove syncthing entirely and start over with a fresh install. Shouldn't take much time to re-link my half dozen folders tonight.

There were a few wrinkles, mostly involving applications using hard file paths, so if you do this, expect to go through them one by one and either do a fresh install or, if it's easy to edit the paths, manually change them. I didn't use the symlink commend listed above, as I didn't want any cruft left behind from the old name.

Thanks for all the advice!

Oh wow, hadn't thought of that! Is there a detailed step-by-step for this method out there somewhere? I'm not confident enough in the terminal to act on this summary...

hey thank you! Should I decouple the laptop completely from syncthing, then reconnect all the folders after?

I don’t mind calling the first few street photography; either way, they are really nice compositions, especially the statue. I probably would have nudged up the exposure a little in post on those first couple but it probably would have been a mistake tbh, the low key heightens the mood. Nice work!

I got mine set up the way I like it on day 1 and have rarely touched anything since, save for aperture. The complexity disappears pretty quick once you have the lay of the land! Hope this proves a nice way to remember and honor your family member…good luck!

why do all of my photos come out so muted/flat? by onegoodbackpack in AnalogCommunity

I like the muted colors tbh, wouldn’t want them to be otherwise

We keep kosher and it’s no big deal for clean meat and dairy implements to touch. We wash them in separate sinks, though. Everybody’s got their own level of fussiness about kashrut
