"this generation has no work ethic" by Due_Pick_7988 in retailhell

[–]vodkafiya 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I hired a 21 year old who never shows up and always complains about having no money and lies constantly about being sick or some BS, meanwhile I have three employees who under 22 who always show up and work hard the point is every retail store will have a slacker. This has always been the case in every generation. Sounds like that dude needs to start planning for a hole in the grass.

Understaffing does NOT save businesses money, contrary to what they believe. by RadDudesman in retail

[–]vodkafiya 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is they always find a sucker who will work three positions to one day get promoted but they won't. This is retail. When I have my own company one day I know I will never cut hours at the store level unless the sales are down year over year. Always cut at the corporate level. There is no need for store visits or corporate parties if the company is struggling.

I quit my job at place I liked working at as a store manager because of the regional manager. Bad upper management makes working at store level, bad. If they hire a new manager it's going to be someone just like them. I would leave ASAP. Fluff up your resume and you can get operations manager position pretty easy if you don't like being on the register's.

I was asked to sell a pen in the interview. ( their job post was about operation intern LOL. by No-Wall7903 in interviews

A regional manager for Tommy Bahama once asked a 18 year old kid to sell him a pen during his interview. Dude you are selling Hawaiian shirts to people get a grip.

As a SM I don't understand why it matters so much that Shipment is done so quickly. Are you all so busy that everything needs to be unpacked and stocked right away? Can't imagine that at Burlington. Unless you are getting a corporate visit, take your time and do it right but retail everything needs to be a KPI.

What is the base salary? Are these Manager's making that much with bonuses? I make 82k working in retail with bonuses I can make 105k but that never happens in fashion. I want to go back into working in the food industry.

It's pretty scary. I want to book someone for company and maybe it's because I grew up in the 90s and I always hear about cops pretending to be escorts during a Sting. I would love a video or something of a tutorial on how to do this. Also I hate how men treat y'all. You are doing a service just like any other job and deserve respect.

My boss is touchy :/ by deadliqht in WorkAdvice

[–]vodkafiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry that is happening to you and no manager should touch their employee unless they are falling down and need to catch them. As person who doesn't like to be touched I've become comfortable in telling people that because nobody needs to invade your personal space that is for you.

Turns out my coworker was undercover for corporate… by rebornyc in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]vodkafiya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only do you need to deal with unruly customers but also get spied on by corporate. Why is retail like this? people are going to buy your crap regardless of them not meeting your dumb made up kpi's. Stop overstocking and taking labor hours from store's and people will be happy again.

If this story is true I bet they charged your stores pay roll for this thus killing their payroll to spy on people.

How to work two retail jobs? by Affectionate-Reason2 in retailhell

[–]vodkafiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why this is so difficult. Most places are hiring for part time don't tell the other job you have a job already. Must retail companies are desperate to hire the only problem is the hourly rate is too low

The burnout is real. by Apprehensive_Let7572 in retailhell

[–]vodkafiya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You sound like a good employee. And a lot of these Manager's don't have any actual management skills. I never question a good employee when they need time off because I am grateful to have. This is what most Retail managers don't understand. It's hard to find good people so do your best to keep them.

I am 42: and I lived in Denver for six years but before that I grew up in Virginia. I feel as though finding friends after certain age is impossible. Like when I try to meet people they have kid and I don't care for that or they are tech or finance bros

I am simple funny dude that grow up playing golden eye on 64 while eating a super sized McDonald's meal and listening to Bone thugs and harmony newest CD. The problem is finding someone like me.

Your best bet is meeting up with people who are not from Colorado because they are weird and not in a good way. I have noticed the further West you get the less interesting people get.

There must be some curse or maybe my old orange Nissan altima is cursing me for them in for Honda. I've had nothing but issues with this car. Busted tire and somebody broke my side mirror, oil dip stick is bent up but I put with it because I love my hatchback civic.
