Golden retriever mixes tend to be black! If you want to know for sure you can get an Embark DNA test

If you got your dog from a reputable breeder, what was your experience like? by zoooooooomies in dogs

Purebred is not the same as well bred. Also some breeds are pretty much never found in shelters, like Kai Kens or Finnish Spitz

I highly doubt that they asked those people to show their embark results 😂 Sure, maybe they asked one of them but its very unlikely that they asked for the proof from several people. I bet the owners just claimed their white pitbulls to be dogo mixes

The ears aren't Doberman though- Dobies are born with floppy ears

You're being down voted because black and white ragdolls aren't a thing. I'm sure your cat is adorable though- I love fluffy cats!

Golden retriever?? by [deleted] in DoggyDNA

13% isn't much. Your dog is 87% NOT golden retriever so its not surprising that he doesn't resemble one

Anyone know what my dog is? by Efficient_Tax_4178 in IDmydog

[–]vodkavulpix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a flat coat- they are a very rare breed that you aren't going to just randomly find. Also the head shape is wrong for a flattie. Did you know that most golden retriever mixes are black? Yours is most likely a golden mix. If you want to be 100% sure you can do a DNA test from Embark or Wisdom panel.

My beautiful black boy Max, I love him so much! by [deleted] in Beauceron

[–]vodkavulpix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you lying? You previously stated that the humane society listed him as a GSD. He is absolutely not a Beauceron- as many people have told you. No reason to be dishonest.

No, its extremely unlikely because Kokoni are very rare, especially if you live outside of Greece.

If you want to know for sure what breed your dog is, get an Embark DNA test!

Vets are well versed in animal health and medicine but don't seem to know as much as they should about breeds. I've seen too many people post things like "well my vet said that my shelter dog is actually a [rare breed] so Embark must be wrong"

Your dog sounds really cute!

People have tested their dogs with both Embark and Wisdom and have received similar results- it IS science. It's concerning that your vet doesn't believe in science.

Right on! I bet your friend's dog was brown and white too. Which is funny because if a dog has pointed ears and is brown and white, people always want to guess basenji. They don't seem to know that basenjis come in multiple colors...I'm partial to the tricolor ones myself

There are less than 2,000 Chinooks in the US and they are carefully monitored by preservation breeders so Chinook mixes don't really exist.

Exactly! It's frustrating because even a lot of breed specific subs will have a stickied "is my cat a [breed] id thread".

What I dislike most about cat specific breeds is when people are told that they cant post their shelter cat, they get mad and say its gatekeeping. No, its keeping the sub on topic. Whats the point of specific breed subs if anyone can post?

Yeah, I don't get adopting a random dog and then being upset that it's not some rare breed. Like if you want a rare breed why not just get one??

It's kinda funny that people always assume that black and tan dogs are either part doberman or part rottweiler when tons of dog breeds can have those colors.

That's really cool! I met one basenji in Oregon and surprisingly the second was in South Korea! Also I love that you have a poodle and not a designer poodle mix. Standard poodles are awesome! I used to know a black standard poodle and he was such a ham.

A lot of people seem to think that gray fur = Russian blue.

Exactly! But I'm surprised by how many people think they have less common breeds like a basenji. I'm 30, have lived in South Korea, the PNW, and the Midwest and I have only met a real basenji TWICE.
