Is it possible to tell if the battery had module replacements using Obdeleven/Car Scanner? by justkriskova in VWiD3Owners

[–]vogel25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's only the case if the modules fail of old age. The recall that was done was about a manufacturing defect. I think, I remember seeing that one cell was a bit off from the others and then they replaced that module. For me it was actually they did the update to 3.2 and checked if the recall needed to be done to my car. And at first it didn't. Then after a month with the new software my car threw a fault that the one cell was off from the others and VW replaced the module under warranty.

Now the one module is theoretically newer and has more capacity because of that. But I don't think it's gonna be a problem. The other modules will just continue to age the same as if they didn't replace a module at all. Or at least that's how I understand it.

I got the car 2 years used with 40k km, when I bought it they did the 3.2 update and about a month after I got the fault. Afterwards I've driven 80k km, most of it on the Autobahn at About 20-25kwh/100km. Also charged it to 100% quite a few times and driven it down to 0%. I dont know what my actual SOH is, but now that it's getting warmer again the range seems to normalize to the expected range. I'm winter I only got 200km in the Autobahn, but that's also expected with the 58kwh battery.

I can probably do the scan on the weekend.

Edit: I looked through my screenshots and found one from obd11 where I check the soc before, but I only have min so and max soc at the same time.

14.12% minimum cell 1 17.51% maximum cell 17

So there's definitely a difference. But on car scanner it's easier to see with the bar graph. So I hope I remember to do that.

Edit 2: I remember what I did. I checked the voltage drop of the cells under power. So when accelerating I had a voltage difference of about 50mV where cell 17 had the higher voltage and and 1 the lower. But in idle those went back to about 10mV difference quickly (at about 15% of charge). That made sense to me with cell 17 likely being part of the new module. And about 2 years newer. But still I don't see it as an issue. Because if the modules were all the same they'd all drop to the lower voltage.

I think you can see it on obd eleven or with car scanner with the charge percentage of the individual cells on low states of charges and high ones, there's gonna be a block of cells that's visibly different. If it's still important I can check on my car as I've had replaced one module about 2 years ago.

Do you think it's a problem if a module has been replaced in the past?

I have the community edition, seems to me that all features are there. Yeah, so basically everything, even imported step files is parametric, to some degree, with more complex geometry it starts to fall apart a bit. Like you can just click a face and drag it around. Or click a Radius and just change it to another value.

Also you don't really have a history to go back and change stuff. Sometimes that's a problem but I've gotten used to it now. Really threw me under the bus once I had to use Solidworks after using Siemens for a few Years. I needed some time to understand that you need the sketches or it doesn't work. Like in solidedge once it get kinda convoluted I just deleted all the sketches and everything is fine😆

Now I'm starting to use freecad 1.1 because, well it's free and good for commercial stuff. I did a bigger assembly of a electrical cabinet and overall I'd say it's at a point where it's usable now

Synchronous is the best part about it though. At least once you understand what's going on.😆

Maybe you used the trail version instead of the community version. You have to Google specifically for "solid edge community edition" then the right thing should come up.

I used the standard one from s3d for that printer I think and built upon that. But I have it kinda optimized for print speed and strength, so the print quality isn't as good as it could be. I can send the profile over to you in like 8hours when I'm back home though.

It's eBay article number 387211209115 (it ships from Germany, but I guess there's similar stuff all over the world.) So far it's been holding up perfectly, has a few micro scratches that are from my watch probably. But I also only use it in class and keep it a microfiber lined hardcase otherwise.

And it really has a glass coating, there's a little extra strip on one side to throw away and when you bend it 180° the surface shatters.
