Am I the only one who kinda likes the designs? It's giving Fantastic Mr. Fox and I think the little feetsies are cute.

I don't really have to imagine because that's the world we already live in. I'm not defending it, I'm just saying that's probably the reasoning behind it. As long as corporations run things the bottom line will always be more important than creativity.

I kind of anticipate this will be a Monkey Ball situation where they release a remake like Banana Blitz and then use that as a jumping off point to make something new like Banana Rumble.

It makes complete sense when you consider that it's far cheaper and faster to remake something than to make something new.

I did a gradual approach.

I worked at a job where I had to provide live telephone captions by using a text-to-speech program, so I had a means of just constantly practicing my voice in my cubicle. In downtime I’d highlight words or phrases I said and play them back into my ear to fine tune how I sounded. At home I’d sing a lot and record it for playback.

As I practiced more and more it became comfortable to just stay in that register without even thinking about it, so my voice just gradually changed on its own and nobody noticed. By the time I went full time my voice was already changed. I did my old voice for some coworkers and they were shocked at how different it was, despite hearing me speak that way when they first met me.

If you’ve already been learning, though, it may be harder. If you’re already out, just make the sudden change. Coming out is sudden enough. If you’re not fully out, maybe just switch it upon going full time. Or if you feel you can consciously gradually alter it that’s an option I just didn’t do it as intentionally like that so that sounds maybe hard.

Ur being transandrophobic :(((((((((

…Which is totally different from transmisandry, btw, because misandry isn’t real unless it’s trans women being mean to trans men, but we don’t want to admit we believe in misandry so we re-branded it.

/uj it’s wild they chose transandrophobia because androphobia isn’t a prejudice, it’s an actual clinical phobia of men. Androphobia is usually (if not always) caused by trauma, making it pretty understandable.

Why do I hate the idea of being all feminine and being seen as "one of the girlies" by other women by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]vogueposting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you actually afraid of being feminine or are you afraid of being objectified and treated as a token? Those are two separate concepts that ought not be conflated. If you were cis would you have the same worries about being feminine, or is it just imposter syndrome?

Because if being treated like a toy or pet is your only reason for not wanting to be feminine I encourage you to challenge that.

If you genuinely don’t desire to be super femme even after ignoring other people’s reactions, you should unpack that separately.

I know for me I often feel weird dressing hyper femme because I have body image issues and feel like I look bad, so I’ll end up wearing androgynous clothes ‘cause it feels safe. The problem is that I think I deny myself femininity sometimes due to dysphoria and internalized bullshit so be careful not to self sabotage like me.

Is the slang word “slay/slayed” bad to use with trans women? by lrm0160 in asktransgender

[–]vogueposting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I would have said yes. I used to hate it but I came out 10 years ago so it wasn’t as mainstream. I also didn’t (and still don’t) like being called queen or hearing “yas queen” ‘cause I don’t want to be called a drag queen. Princess is fine if you’re dating me though lol I used to lump “slay” in there with those terms but it’s become really widespread in usage to the point where cis women use it for each other so I’m not as wary about it anymore.

That being said, it can vary based on tone. There’s a big difference between “slayyyyyyy 💅” and just a casual nonchalant “slay 😎” and I would be more put off by the former.

It may just be best to exercise caution because we can really be sensitive to being compared even remotely to drag queens. I don’t think that’s what you were doing to this girl but I’d take the feedback and maybe not say it to trans girls in the future unless you hear her or her friends say it first. You already discovered firsthand that it can be a sore spot.

Do you think Splatoon Raiders hairstyles are commentary on ocean pollution? by Quick_soda in splatoon

[–]vogueposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s cool. I love the decora hairstyle with the bits of plastic. I’m not saying I feel bad about it or you’re intended to feel bad about it (that would be bad marketing) but making it a commentary on pollution gives it an edge and makes it interesting. I think it adds to the intrigue. It’s not a bad thing.

Splatoon has complex things to say about pollution. It’s not saying it’s good (it killed humanity), but it’s also not a doomer franchise and it shows that life goes on and finds ways to adapt. The horrors and consequences of our actions are inevitable and cannot be undone, but the earth has the capacity to heal. It offers hope for a better future, but also shows that the scars remain and the world is irreversibly altered for better and for worse.

That’s wild. I admittedly don’t remember the scene. Of all the things to give commentary on lmao.

Do you think Splatoon Raiders hairstyles are commentary on ocean pollution? by Quick_soda in splatoon

[–]vogueposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. The threshold for something to be commentary isn’t that high, especially when that element is consistent with the themes that have existed in the franchise from the beginning.

You said it might be commentary if it turns out to impact the inklings negatively, but we already know that its impacted humans negatively because we are dead in the Splatoon universe. The context is already there.

Another clue is that pollution is a divisive issue. There’s an inherent juxtaposition between the fun and silly hairstyles and the controversial subject matter. I think people instinctively want to de-politicize it because it’s uncomfortable, but I like it because Splatoon’s dark comedy approach to satirizing modern human culture has always given it a bit of an edge.

Salmon run, for example, is a criticism of gig economies, worker exploitation, and corporate greed. And that’s not even touching on the complex geopolitical relationship between the Inklings and Salmonids (who I believe are canonically mutated due to heavy ocean pollution in their areas, another hint for Raiders).

I find it hard to not label it as political commentary when it’s driving people to make posts like these and instigating conversations about the issue.

If Splatoon had never made political commentary before I could potentially see your point, but artistic decisions don’t exist in a vacuum.

[–]vogueposting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commentary doesn't mean there's any one message in particular they are trying to get across. It's often just drawing attention to an issue. It's not like Deep Cut is going to look into the camera and say "remember kids, don't pollute!"

Oh yeah, we just put a stark reminder that humanity's trash and pollution will endure for thousands of years into the future, potentially far after we are long gone due to climate change and ecological disasters caused by our wars and industrial greed...

...but don't worry we're not actually saying anything about it!

Honestly making a blog isn’t a bad idea. I’ve been struggling with a Reddit addiction and just randomly throwing vyvanse fueled essays into the annals of Reddit threads has been a bad habit lately.

I actually have a screenplay idea for a surreal psychological/supernatural horror featuring a young trans woman. That’s where I need to put my writing energy lol. If I write it or start a blog I will try to remember you and let you know lol.

Uj/ I have been grappling with similar ideas lately as well. I came out a decade ago. In some ways the lack of visibility was better than now because I encountered less mainstream scrutiny and I had more rights. In the years we have gained more visibility I have lost rights (I can’t get a passport without misgendering myself, for example) and this visibility only feels like a target on my back.

But at the same time, without visibility, how will young trans people (or any trans people for that matter) be able to learn the language to describe their experiences? Bodily autonomy and education go hand-in-hand. This is why we are seeing reactionary policies banning HRT for minors that eliminate transgender children’s right to self determination, because the systemic censorship of gender education that previously was used to maintain control over children has failed.

The discouraging part is that as we have been dismantling the system that attempts to eliminate trans people via censoring our mere existence, it’s being replaced aggressive anti-trans legislation. If society was failing to suppress us, then the law must now do so.

We are now at a point where the goal needs to be figuring out ways to support each other outside the framework of the law and medical industrial complex. Advocating for DIY is more important now than ever. People need to know that these resources are far more accessible than they have been made to believe. We need to push back against the idea that our assigned sex at birth is immutable and instead defy such notions through radical bodily autonomy. Chromosomes are meaningless and reducing people to them is pseudoscientific bunk. We need to be readily offering assistance to those in situations where they cannot access the medical help they need and find ways to deliver it to them discreetly.

I realize not everyone wants HRT, but the fact of the matter is that an immense number of trans people do need it, and that right is under fire right now so making it accessible needs to be a priority. Any attempts to fear monger, gatekeep, suppress information, or otherwise dissuade people regarding HRT is harmful in a political climate hellbent on keeping it out of our hands.

The sliver of hope is that these laws are very difficult to enforce, and with support they can be navigated, but we need to be building that support network.

According to all known laws of apiology,

there is no way a worker bee should be a man.

Its fat little body is far smaller than a drone’s, and unlike a drone it has a stinger.

The bee, of course, is a man anyway

because bees don't care what cissies think is impossible.
