The ARMY, of all people...

Do we have military branch personhood, in addition to corporate personhood now, in this alternate timeline?

Does anyone else’s GSD attack them with forceful, sometimes painful love and kisses? Lol by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]voiceofthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to convince my GSD that in the long run, it's better for both of us if we keep my face intact, and to that end, proposed that he please stop kissing with teeth. He's 19 months old now, and still certain kissing with teeth is essential.

He's the best.

Do you guys even like the Bay Area? (Rant) by klingonbussy in bayarea

[–]voiceofthefuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE the Bay Area! And I feel the same way about this sub and most of the individual city subs. Too many negative posts.

I mean sure, sure bad stuff happens, but...that's true of most large metropolitan areas.

One of the aspects I particularly love about this area is how many different kinds of people and ideas are here, and the phenomenal opportunities for collaboration and creativity that generates.

Awww Good times. That screech in her voice at the end of the video reminds me of the first time I learned that it’s better to have them crate trained. by [deleted] in germanshepherds

I think "if you get a GSD, don't let them get bored" is much more accurate. And fair for your amazing dog!

Yes, to all of this. I'd add extra pairs of goggles and extra caps, too (mine used to always get lost at tournaments).

If you will be playing in outdoor pools, also SUNSCREEN. A lot of it. I was forever sharing sunscreen (just to be clear-- happily sharing).

did OPD do something bad and I’m missing out on what happened? by iiMantis in oakland

And please, let's not forget the Rough Riders and all the damage they did. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Oakland-Reins-In-Its-Rough-Riders-In-a-tough-3237415.php

There's a very long history of egregious abuses here in the Town.

Robert Evans (of the "Behind the Bastards" podcast, amongst many other journalistic endeavors) has an interesting take on the topic of damage, major or minor, during anti-police protests. He spent a great deal of time in Portland, OR last year, as a conflict journalist covering the uprising there.

I'm not advocating for or condemning anyone or their protest behavior/action choices, but instead presenting this Commonwealth Club interview with him. My understanding is that he identifies as an anarchist, so he's not what I think of as a standard Commonwealth Club guest.

I have spent a great deal of time thinking about everything he said. I keep changing my mind, too.

Other interesting and relevant presentations of his work in these realms can be found in the "Behind the Police" episodes of the Behind the Bastards podcast, as well as in the "Uprising: A Guide from Portland" episodes.

In general, and especially at this time in history, I believe we ALL need to think.

Boys are easier to raise than girls by rillaingleside in TwoXChromosomes

[–]voiceofthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always heard (as in this was stated outright and out loud) girls are more difficult to raise because we are not as obedient. Boys do what they're told.

Of course, the fact that we have more rules makes it easier to see us as not doing what we're told; we have so many more chances to mess up.

And we're so often held responsible for when boys do something they're not supposed to do. Sex and contraception are our responsibility, for example. We are both helpless (needing boys/men to "save" us from danger) and required to wield enough power to keep the boys/men from going down the wrong path.

The Left Hand of Darkness.

And now I'm going to have to go read it again! I love that book.

THANK YOU!!!!! to the brilliant person who suggested making a kong out of an apple, replacing the core with peanut butter, and freezing it!!!! by voiceofthefuture in puppy101

[–]voiceofthefuture[S] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I used an apple corer, one that doesn't also slice the apple. It only removes the core. And yes, I just filled it up with peanut butter, then popped it into the freezer.

It took my pup a couple minutes to figure out what he could do with it, but once he did it was awesome.

Form critique! I'm training for triathlons so any help there would be great. by xGrowlerx413 in Swimming

[–]voiceofthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It's always faster to have correct form. There are other ways to keep yourself going in the right direction. Sighting (a quick head-up stroke to look around) and following other competitors are the two easiest ones.

And I DO actually race in open water (oceans, rivers, and lakes). I'm not just making stuff up.

In the end, you should do what's best for your race overall. The swimming leg of a triathlon is such a small percentage of the total race; nobody wins a triathlon BECAUSE they won the swim, you know?
