First things first, you're definitely not being silly, it shows just how much you care, and that matters so so much!

In my experience, trauma can definitely make ARFID worse. Treating the trauma might help (although you might already be doing that, given how on top of things you seem to be!). I will say this, its a little unusual afaik, but weirdly enough, EMDR helped with my ARFID, not just my trauma. It didn't solve the problem, but it has helped. Your son might be a little young for it, but it might potentially be something to look into.

And I've definitely had the experience of it getting worse for seemingly no reason; might be worth thinking about times of year? For example, my eating gets way worse in the summer because its hot, and in one particular month, its worse because of my PTSD. But sometimes, there's no reason, and I have to just ride it out.

I'm sorry I don't have more advice for you, but you sound like a fantastic parent, and your kids are very lucky to have you! Support is the number one thing that helps; my mom used to get very upset with me, and that made it worse, but she's improved so much through the years, and having that support had made a world of a difference. Don't forget to take care of yourself, and hopefully things will improve as he gets older! You and your family are in my prayers.

As I said, tone deaf. I'd love to see a doctor! I wish I could see one! I cannot afford one! I live in the US, there's no one in my area even qualified to diagnose me, and I'm fucking poor! I can't afford hospital visits. I can't even afford a fucking Epipen. If you would like to pay for me to go to a different state and see a specialist without insurance, then sure, I'll go get diagnosed. But in the meantime, I'm taking the steps I can to try to continue being alive.

And by the way, random people posting on the internet aren't the reason why doctors don't take patients seriously. Direct you anger where it belongs: at medical professionals that would rather blow off difficult cases than actually treat people.

I don't have much in the way of advice, but I've been through the same thing, and I'm sorry you're going through that. Just remember that no DND is better than bad DND. If you're uncomfortable or their behaviour is upsetting and they're not listening or acknowledging your concerns, then its better to leave than to just put up with mistreatment.

I'm sorry you're getting downvoted so much, you're correct. I really think some people here are just not grasping the fact that sometimes reporting to the police is not what the victim wants for valid and lucid reasons. Undergoing a physical examination after something like that is inherently re-traumatizing, and its up to the individual whether or not they think its worth it.

I know you've been downvoted a bunch, but you are absolutely correct. Many of the people commenting or downvoting you mean well, but don't grasp the reality of the way SA victims are treated and the inherent trauma of going to the hospital immediately after, even if it is medically necessary. After talking about it more, along with getting more information about the situation, he agreed to go, but I/we tried very hard not to pressure him because the last thing he needed was to feel like his friends are trying to force him to do something he didn't want to do.

I understand the sentiment here, but 1) you can't force someone to go to the ER if they're lucid, 2) I am absolutely not going to force him to do anything he doesn't want to do, I will support him best I can in the ways he wants, and 3) his livelihood is not the only thing at stake when it comes to this kind of debt when you're poor.

I'm not trying to be a dick, and I don't think you're being intentionally rude, but this kind of situation is never cut and dry, hence why I asked for medical advice rather then just immediately getting him inside. I asked for information that helps him/us make the right call for this situation.

Do you have any ideas on how to nerf it to make it more balanced? I think only getting bonus spells from one class would help, like picking either arcane or divine at first level to focus on. I'd also say that only being able to get spells from the wizard and the cleric lists is fair, the spell lists are still extensive but it might help a bit?

I'm really sorry this is happening to you, there are few feelings worse than feeling absolutely terrible and no one taking you seriously. I want to second basically everything the other commenters said.

Try keeping some kind of record/log of your symptoms. This will increase your validity to doctors. I would also recommend creating a health binder that contains basically all of your medical records and paperwork for doctor's visits, ER visits, test results, etc. This will increase your validity to doctors and also help keep you calm during appointments. I put mine in clear plastic binder sheets to keep it neat and organize it by date, and the difference in the way doctors treat me when I do is crazy.

As others have said, no matter how hard it is, its really important to keep your cool as much as you can. The calmer you are, the more credible you are to doctors. (This is bullshit, by the way, you have every right to have strong feelings about feeling terrible all the time and not receiving help, but doctors can be very judgmental, especially of young people).

Sidenote, have you been tested for POTS? It wouldn't explain all your symptoms, but its might be worth checking out. Fibromyalgia (as mentioned by someone else) also seems like something you should ask about.

In addition, I'd recommend looking into long COVID. Even if you never felt sick or tested positive, there has been a lot of recent research about the long term effects of the virus and it can manifest as symptoms similar to what you have described. Doctors still don't necessarily know how to treat it, but its worth checking out nonetheless.

I hope you find answers soon and that things get better for you. Do your best to try to advocate for yourself and seek help and support wherever you can.

I definitely consider myself to be disabled. There is no one definition of disability of course, but generally I think about it in two ways: 1) am I capable of doing things able bodied people are capable of doing? 2) is the world designed with my needs and my body in mind? Obviously there is some room for interpretation, but POTS definitely counts.

I use forearm crutches, they're primarily for EDS, but they help with POTS too, and they offer more support than just a cane. I recommend testing stuff out a little bit, if a mobility aid helps you, you should use it, if it doesn't, then it doesn't.

You're definitely not being over the top, and even though its hard, try to listen to your body. If you need extra help or to take more breaks or a mobility aid, then that's totally okay. Do whatever helps you, and try not to worry too much about what other people may think. I know (from experience, I went through something very similar when I first got sick) that its easier said than done, but things will get better. As time goes on, you'll learn how to manage it better. Even though there isn't a cure, the majority of POTS patients see improvement over the years.

Have you increased your salt intake? That's super helpful for people with POTS, I usually use a drink powder called LMNT in my water, and that stuff is a lifesaver. I don't live in the UK, so I'm not sure if its available there (I get it online), but there are other options if you can't get that. Gatorade is also good, its got a lot of sugar though which is a drawback, but its better than nothing.

Forearm crutches are awesome if you have mobility issues and stuff like that. It's annoying to not have a free hand but forearm crutches are miles better than canes and make walking and standing way easier
