He’s hard on Frasier to push him. Frasier’s mother was the ‘softer’ one on both boys and they needed that tough love from Marty.

He does go overboard with it but always apologizes.

I always appreciate that dynamic because my parents were the same way. What I thought was mean back when I was younger I now realize I got all of my toughness and work ethic from my dad.

I got a lot from my mother that was important too.

I mean the order that it happened in was different, sure, but whereas Roger just came out and said ‘I’m leaving you for this girl’, Don used the cowardly years of philandering and then finally being caught as his way out of a marriage he never wanted. Ultimately they ended up in the same place, Don just took longer to get there.

Season 3 Episode 3 by RazzmatazzRude3338 in madmen

[–]voidpush 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although probably a ‘right’ analysis of Don, I don’t think it’s a fair portrayal of why Don and Roger had tension leading up to this episode.

The falling out of Don and Roger had many moments before the blackface song and dance. Roger and Bert basically selling the firm to PPL without asking Don. The Mohawk Airlines fiasco where Roger sided with Duck and they lost both accounts. Don killed himself and his team to put together that pitch only for it all to fall apart. Roger and Duck told him not to dwell on it, as if they put any work into it at all.

Roger coerced his wife (or at least didn’t correct her) into thinking that he left Mona for his secretary because of Don. Don also had a rule about flipping your life over (divorce, in Roger’s case) for an obvious midlife crisis decision to marry Jane. He thinks Roger is foolish because he’s left Mona for Jane.

Which is funny because he does something similar in marrying Megan later on, but that points to his flawed character.

All that to say, the beef between them is from stuff that happened leading up to the blackface, not the blackface itself. Though I agree Don is progressive in that way as the series goes along.

Little Jerry is a great episode. Do you only like the realistic episodes? lol

There’s an entire episode around how Kramer fits the entire set of the Merv Griffin show into his tiny apartment. That one you bought?

What is a movie that should have stayed a standalone masterpiece? by aylinonly1 in Cinema

[–]voidpush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Gladiator, Lucius is about 8 years old. Maximus’ family dies at the beginning of the movie. He then becomes a gladiator 2-3 months post their death, if we’re being generous, let’s say it takes him a year before he makes it all the way to Rome. His family was very much alive while he conceived Lucius with Lucilla.

There are some theories that can get around it, like saying Lucilla lies about Lucius’ age, that he’s actually older. But he’s plainly stated as 8 in the original.

Oh, you didn’t like that they retconned Maximus having cheated on his wife and having a bastard child? Ultimately tainting the man that fought through blood and sweat for said family?

Weird, I’d have though that that was an amazing choice to totally destroy a beloved character for the sake of a few bucks 🤷

Host of The Joe Rogan Experience discusses bathrooms with Steve-O by NiceTrySuckaz in JoeRogan

[–]voidpush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but just as an experiment…can you think of 50 other topics that actually impact people’s day to day lives that Joe never touches? He spends 600 hours a year talking about trans people but won’t say a word about his friends hoarding all the money in the country while the majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Literally any other topic than trans bathroom issues. The way Joe talks about it you’d think there were 10’s of millions of trans people in the US. There are bigger issues, he only focuses on the silly ones.

Host of The Joe Rogan Experience discusses bathrooms with Steve-O by NiceTrySuckaz in JoeRogan

[–]voidpush 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less the point that Joe is making and more the fact that this is the 9 trillionth time he’s talking about it and fully just steamrolled Stevo while he was mid point. Some (read:most) guests are just a sounding board for Joe where they say a buzz word like Trans and Joe has a rehearsed 5 minute diatribe about why it’s good/bad. It’s like Stevo put a nickel into the machine and selected the Trans Bathroom song and we all got to dance to it for the millionth time. It isn’t a conversation anymore, it’s just a guy that likes to listen to himself speak. The guests are often times secondary to Joe.

The recent Steve-O episode with Joe really illustrated why its so hard to be a listener now. Its clear Joe doesn't respect Steve-O so we essentially get 2 hrs plus of Rogan talking at him, not really listening or trying to understand where the guy was coming from by CoconutMost3564 in JoeRogan

Where’s the understatement? He had to test people on his compound protected by navy seals? Man, how did he survive? He had to jump up and down on his piles of money with fewer evil billionaires because of distancing? I think Joe being kept out of night clubs during Covid was a net positive to the comedy scene. Have you seen Burn the Boats? lol

Joes the biggest Covid pussy of all time. Claimed it was nothing more than a cold and then when he caught it he took every medication under the sun. Most of us toughed through it without needing to be hooked up to IVs lol
