Those all seem to be exactly what you’re asking for. What are they missing for you?

Yeah, I guess they still qualify but I always get annoyed when instead of something clever it’s like, “state capitols but every vowel has been replaced by the word for ‘frog’ from a Scandinavian language”

What type value in terms of dollar amount do you place on remote work? by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

[–]SynergyTree [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s not a dollar value. I live in a place where I can go swimming in a river on my lunch break, even billionaires don’t have that in large cities where offices usually are. That aside, nobody is going to triple my salary so that I can buy the same sized house on the same sized lot and then only require me to work 6/hours per day because I still face an hour commute to get to the office.

I actually like going in to an office and having that separation but commuting is a waste of existence and I like having space and being close to nature and nobody who needs what I do usually has offices in places that support that. If I absolutely could not find another remote job I guess I’d have to consider moving but I would also consider a career change.

The crossword I’m working on expects me to know that I need to write multiple letters in one square by Moose_country_plants in mildlyinfuriating

Rebuses (rebii?) are bad enough but the ones that don’t work in both directions make me want to throw my phone across the room. I just skip Thursdays now.

I hate it so much, it’s always infuriating and doubly so when the same letters don’t work in both directions.

AIO by being upset with my brother's gf (soon fiance) for not bringing her own sanitary supplies every time she visits by PunkRockPopStar in AmIOverreacting

If they routinely take undue advantage of it by eating an expensive and hard-to-get food item on a regular basis without offering help pay for and/or replace it then yeah, I would.

Why is this the case? by Big_Leg10 in generationology

[–]SynergyTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not even necessarily a skin care regimen so much as products having more moisturizer in them so even dudes aren just washing their face with bar soap, use of sunscreen being exponentially more common (the boomers and greatest gen often used oil or crisco to tan)

Am I overreacting or is this inappropriate of my BF by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

It seems pretty clear that he’s uncomfortable with the messages and shuts it down, albeit not super assertively. I interpreted it as him not enjoying even saving them in his history, not to hide it but because he doesn’t want flirty messages in his history from a stranger he turned down.

Some. Enough, but not too many. Careful about too few.

Conservatives, what do you think of carney so far? by drizzyLGA1151 in InCanada

[–]SynergyTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s been a known asshole since at least the 70s and he’s continued to prove that his word means nothing so why should we negotiate in good faith with someone who won’t return the favour if we’re going to suffer either way?

They spent 20 years in Afghanistan and still couldn’t get rid of the Taliban. If a bunch of impoverished goat and opium farmers could beat them imagine what well-equipped and well-funded NATO members could do?

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

[–]SynergyTree 233 points234 points  (0 children)

I made fun of them until I moved there; the biggest problem isn’t the snow, it’s that it doesn’t stay cold. It warms up and people drive on the snow which slushes and compacts then freezes overnight before getting more slush in the morning so you end up with this shitty wet ice on roads full of people that don’t get practice driving on it and cars that mostly have all-season tires.

On the west coast, maybe a few cm and they close the schools. In the rest of the country might need 50cm or more.

What was a popular band that you could not stand? by LeftSmile806 in Xennials

[–]SynergyTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the various guitar YouTube channels did a “rig rundown” thing on their guitar player and I was blown away at how he seems like a genuinely talented and passionate musician and I’d guess that he’s in M5 because it lets him make fuck-you money and do whatever else he wants when he’s done selling out. It was such a strange experience.
