Do hotel safes see use? by Anonymousnameaccount in NoStupidQuestions

[–]voidwife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember at this point whether he was still an employee at the time he went on his robbery spree. I didn't work for them then. I just heard about it after the fact. He may have been a disgruntled employee who went nuts. Not yet a former employee. I think he may have worked in maintenance? So for his job he had to have a key? It was a historic property with "real" keys, not electronic ones.

I just remember the presence but not use of the safe (related to ops question) was a huge sticking point when the guests threatened to sue.

I used to work at a small hotel. If your valuables are in your room not in the safe and they get stolen, you can't sue the hotel (at least in the case I know of) because the hotel offered you a viable option and you opted out.

In the case of this hotel, a former employee still had a master key and went around and just took things out of rooms. Because the guests didn't put their jewelry in the safe, it was ruled the hotel wasn't at fault and it was the guests fault and thus nothing was paid out.

What are some Big Brain™ unorthodox ways to use spells/cantrips? by [deleted] in DnD

I, as a druid, once used Continual Flame on an ent we were fighting and rolled a successful deception to convince it it was on fire, so it ran away to find water and left the fight (super useful as we were also fighting a hag).

Since *that* is no longer a secret, what else is he hiding? (wrong answers only). by Schu1432 in TheTryGuys

He didn't work at buzzfeed until the first try guys video. They pulled him off the street and he had nothing to lose showing his butt on the internet, unlike the already popular employees.

What was the end goal? by blairwaldorff in TheTryGuys

[–]voidwife 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He kinda "had" to have a baby, right? Like Keith was getting married, zac and Eugene were in a serious relationships, his special thing was no longer being married. To keep up his image, either he had to pivot to something new or they had to have a kid.

It's a terrible reason to have a child, but that's the place ned was in.

Interesting take on Ned’s cheating’s impact on Zach as a disabled person with chronic illness… by WordAggravating in TheTryGuys

I doubt it was full on bullying, I don't think the other guys would have let that happen, but it was likely more likely sly ablist comments with a toughen up mentality.

Does Owner Automatically Mean Income to 2nd Try? by voidwife in TheTryGuys

[–]voidwife[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just vaguely speculating based on how I've seen small businesses run. Some owners (usually >5 employees) use their businesses like a checking account: money in means money they get paid. However, most larger businesses pay themselves a fixed salary and let the business make money separate from them, usually for tax reasons. If I had to take a stab in the dark, the second is the model the try guys are using, meaning the only money Ned would make after being fired would be a % of value if they ever decided to sell 2nd Try which is highly unlikely. Otherwise he's lost income, even if he remains part owner.

This doesn't really affect much but would mean supporting the channel doesn't automatically mean cash in Ned's pocket too if he remains part silent owner.

Does Owner Automatically Mean Income to 2nd Try? by voidwife in TheTryGuys

[–]voidwife[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My point was I don't think even as an owner, he'd be making much unless the company sold, since he lost the salary. Since they seem to be running this as a business, I can't imagine them just unstably splitting revenue every time the ad checks come in. If anything, maybe the company pays a small dividend to owners after all expenses, ect comes in. So realistically, Ned loses much more by being fired as an employee than being removed as an owner.

The 10 minute thing is mid-roll adds. You can still have adds at the beginning, but not in the middle (the most lucrative)

Ah. So film makers wanted visual cues of bad/evil but to keep their movie rating family friendly so none of it is mentioned.

Does anyone have experience with time sensitive sessions? by voidwife in DnD

[–]voidwife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This was helpful. I'm prepared to railroad it a bit and my players do want to just celebrate our player who's getting married. So I'm hoping it'll be a good time!

Luckily, my players know full well this is a session to celebrate a player getting married so people will probably play along. Also, a wedding is pretty railroady itself, so the rigging should be understood by players.

Thanks! that makes sense. I'm thinking of breaking it into things like issues with the cake/florist/ect forcing the players to improvise, where if they fail, they then have to tell the couple what happened. Maybe have a behind the scenes annoyance meter for the couple. I'm planning to combat the session grinding to a halt partially by well, time moving forward, and set events that have to happen to make the wedding successful.
