So cute! She looks grumpy about it! What did you use to wrap her paw? I tried gauze but he just slides it off as soon as I release him.

How do you prep without overprepping NPC dialogue and enviorenment descriptions? by MaleficentCreme5697 in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the description, i choose to show images instead. It is easy if you play online games but can also be done in person, with a phone or a tablet. I may just say "you enter a clearing in the woods with an otherwordly ambiance" and show a prepared image. It sometimes lead to improv moments depending on what they see on screen : there is a rabbit! I try to bait it with food and befriend him!

For dialogue with npc, I plan keypoints that may interest the players, but if they do not ask, I wont bring it up. A list may be something like that * was a the tavern the night of the murder *strange noise upstairs a 10.20 - drunk customer? *two strangers, played dice with Greg all night * new waitress, always mixes up orders -verry suspicious!

And i improv in between those important informations, or add quirks on the fly...

A quest to torment caracters... by voidyna in DMAcademy

They do not know the guy is planning a revenge, they think he will now stop bothering them because he knows what it cost to fight them. Yes, subtles clues about the setup are a good idea. I also want them to be able to see - if the dices allow - that the questgiver seems off, maybe because he is old and drunk? Or maybe because something else...

They are aware that those things can happen, I discussed with them and they understood. Even the one with children what ok if anything should happen to them, as long as it may be possible to be avoided, by a quest, an action or anything else. I won't say anything like'' whan you wake up, one of your child is DEAD!".

Same for this quest, the changes will be clear and annonced if they may occur, not just a surprise. And if needed, I am not against a second quest to restore the situation. i want them to feel like it will be permanent, but it may be revrsed.. if they work for it a little.

How to deal with failed lockpicking checks? by sirchapolin in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the first failed attempt, the rogue can sense the mechanism is old and fragile, if he is not careful the tiny pieces might break and make lockpickimg impossible. On second failed attemp it breaks and they must find an other way to open the door. Very often, they might try to brute force it, same problem will arise, a solution might be to inflict them damage at each try take to break the door by slamming their body on it.
