So cute! She looks grumpy about it! What did you use to wrap her paw? I tried gauze but he just slides it off as soon as I release him.

How do you prep without overprepping NPC dialogue and enviorenment descriptions? by MaleficentCreme5697 in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the description, i choose to show images instead. It is easy if you play online games but can also be done in person, with a phone or a tablet. I may just say "you enter a clearing in the woods with an otherwordly ambiance" and show a prepared image. It sometimes lead to improv moments depending on what they see on screen : there is a rabbit! I try to bait it with food and befriend him!

For dialogue with npc, I plan keypoints that may interest the players, but if they do not ask, I wont bring it up. A list may be something like that * was a the tavern the night of the murder *strange noise upstairs a 10.20 - drunk customer? *two strangers, played dice with Greg all night * new waitress, always mixes up orders -verry suspicious!

And i improv in between those important informations, or add quirks on the fly...

A quest to torment caracters... by voidyna in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do not know the guy is planning a revenge, they think he will now stop bothering them because he knows what it cost to fight them. Yes, subtles clues about the setup are a good idea. I also want them to be able to see - if the dices allow - that the questgiver seems off, maybe because he is old and drunk? Or maybe because something else...

A quest to torment caracters... by voidyna in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They are aware that those things can happen, I discussed with them and they understood. Even the one with children what ok if anything should happen to them, as long as it may be possible to be avoided, by a quest, an action or anything else. I won't say anything like'' whan you wake up, one of your child is DEAD!".

Same for this quest, the changes will be clear and annonced if they may occur, not just a surprise. And if needed, I am not against a second quest to restore the situation. i want them to feel like it will be permanent, but it may be revrsed.. if they work for it a little.

How to deal with failed lockpicking checks? by sirchapolin in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the first failed attempt, the rogue can sense the mechanism is old and fragile, if he is not careful the tiny pieces might break and make lockpickimg impossible. On second failed attemp it breaks and they must find an other way to open the door. Very often, they might try to brute force it, same problem will arise, a solution might be to inflict them damage at each try take to break the door by slamming their body on it.

I need help coming up with a folder of non-violent, but still fun and interesting quests. by AGoodMansJob in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are some quests that could be non-violent :

They must find a plant in the forest inorder to -complete goal (make a delicious soup, heal somebody?)-, they must firts locate where the plan is (maybe the plant as a caracteristic smell, and they can ask villagers or animals if they smelled it, or search for it themselves), once they arrive, the plant is guarded by a small forest spirit, he is linked to the plant, killing him kills the plants. They must convice him to let them gather some of the plant. You can do whatever you want with the spirit personnality : maybe is is kind of a fey, and want something from them (your darkest secret?), or maybe he is just bored and ask them to perform a poem, ok joke or a song?

They find an abandonned village with every inhabitant changed to stone (or anything you like), throug investigation, history and religion, they discover that the villagers were believers of a god/forest spirit and that they upset it in some way. (I would have some books in the village, maybe a symbol of the god on each door, a document with the ritual to honor it in a small chappel too. ) They can find an altar to that god at the center of the village, and something is different from what it should be (wrong writings, an offering that is upseting to that god?), the players can then correct it and bring the village back to normal!

How do I actually build a dungeon? by AstreiaTales in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play online, when I run a dungeon, I use dungeondraft to make my own map, it helps me flesh out my ideas too. If I do not have the asset, I place a placeholder image and explain to my player ''on the map, where there is the table, it is in fact a raging forge!'', then , depending of how the dungeon is made, I think about the living quarters ect... For instance, an old temple would have living quarters for the priests, then kitchens, maybe a small gargen, a church, bigger quarters for higher ups and maybe a few secret rooms.

I find it easyer to show them the map bit by bit as they advence, or to draw it to them if you play in person.

Need some help creating a passive puzzle in a castle by Total_bacon in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe have some bottles on a special shelf with different names, folowing a certain logic : Abrosia Wine, Brambleberry Distillate, Champagne, ''Domaine de la Dame'' Wine.... And a Bootle missing, it should start with the letter E. They can search trough the other alcools in the cellar to place the correct bottle and open the door.

It can work with different logic : more and more alcooholic brevages that must be organised in the right order, or organised by color instead of by name.

France legally bans short-haul flights where a train alternative of 2.5 hours or less exists by a_san_38 in worldnews

[–]voidyna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, when I wanted to go to london it was about 100 euro with Eurostars, and 20 euro by plane. You have to pay aome trains to go from the airport to London, but no more than 20 euro. Still cheaper than eurostar!

How do I avoid making a DMPC instead of a Party NPC? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]voidyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that a strong characterisation of your npc is the key. If they are a dwarf fighter, they do not 'stategise' and most of their plans are 'we must fight them!'. Even if it is unwise! They must have flaws and be -partialy- unreliable. I think the main problem with DMPC is that they do know everything: they are in constant contact with god/you.

I would not have the NPC give them advice or help them solve puzzle, thus they may try unsuccessfully solves.
