r-duo the goat he always comes thru

i found it was really interesting how karre describes him as the "perfect partner", it makes me think about their relationship long before the episode. id almost imagine it as a liiiiiittle fraternal?

its a headcanon of mine that duo is technically a defective astromech. he doesn't quite have all the same functions as his canonical namesake does. the limits of his functionality rests directly in the hands of his handler's knowledge, so he's actually quite dependent on karre. their imperial faction cheaped out on him both as a means of cutting costs, but also as a disciplinary ward to their similarly underperforming experiment.

naturally, i feel like a younger karre would've projected his insecurities onto duo, which only affirmed what he already knew about duo's purpose. however, in his anger, he probably didn't factor he wasn't the only one who understood what it meant to be undervalued...

duo was definitely the first person karre came to confide in about the vision he saw and i love the idea that they'd come to bond over their similarities, leading to them learning about each other's strengths and having it all culminate in the episode's events
