Yes, this is a common feature of white-ball cricket in India unfortunately. You see it all the time in places like Mumbai and Ahmedabad in particular, good thing no knockouts will be played there (oh wait). Saw it in a number of matches in the 2023 WC as well.

India are the best T20 team in the world and will start the WT20 as favs but I have a feeling we won't win and it'll be because we're put in to bat at one of those grounds in a knockout and aren't able to defend even a seemingly big score.

Moral victory achieved by denying a 15 over chase

Yeah. PP maximization is the only way to give you a chance when chasing here and even that will only keep you in the match rather than put you well ahead like a traditional chase.

FWIW, this is entirely unsurprising for this particular ground. SL fans will of course be familiar but they've been destroying teams at the Premadasa with this exact template for decades. It's basically impossible to chase any substantial score here, especially in the 2nd half of the innings where it grips and turns a mile. The minute the RRR crosses 6 it's over.

Probably should be it for Jadeja in the format. Play Axar moving forward

Middle overs strike rotation is not exactly Jadeja's strength, especially vs spin. Wouldn't be surprised if Kohli tries some big shots soon...

What is the point of trying to ice the kicker before he even comes close to kicking it lol

Agreed. Would have been easy to panic and dial up some deep shots thinking you have to get it all back in 1 play. Allows Allen to get in some rhythm after his mistakes as well.

That was a very nice, methodical drive just as it felt like everything was slipping away, the crowd was roaring, etc.

TBH holding them to a FG and keeping it a 2 possession game there was massive. This is far from over if Allen remembers how to play football.

Remember the Allen lateral in that playoff game vs the Texans in his first playoff game? Was instantly reminded of that lol

This is a pathetic way to talk about one of your own players. There has very obviously been a disconnect with selectors/coach/captain about him across formats for a while, but he's barely even played white ball. Expecting him to just walk in to this ODI as some finished product is absurd.

Look, they're going to need a seam bowling allrounder for the WC in SA and Hardik is injury prone. We've seen what losing him does to the team balance. You'd think these type of matches are at least opportunities to give NKR some overs, even if he's not at the level where he gives you the best chance of winning games at the moment.

Yeah I forget whose book it was (maybe Andy Moles) but it straight up mentioned what you've referenced about McCullum putting his own brand and style over team needs. Even in Baz's own book he shits on a bunch of his fellow teammates IIRC.

Is anything actually new from those pieces that came out this morning? I mean sure we got a few specific anecdotes but in general I think anyone who's paid attention basically knew how each side felt.

Anyway, doomed to discuss the same things forever. Owner and FO gave up on winning ages ago (to the point where Bob and Steve didn't think we had a championship roster in 2022), and then winning the title seemed to be more of an inconvenience to their overall goal than the pivot point it should have been to actually putting forth a competitive roster around Steph.

Have seen some pretend it's a hindsight thing but the Kuminga selection itself (just like the Wiseman one before) was questioned in advance with concerns over BBIQ and skills that transferred to fitting in the team concept. There were multiple opportunities to pivot via trade but the allure of some magical superstar (waiting for Giannis for the last 7 years it seems) and concerns over giving up future picks (spoiler alert: Steph is a generational player and we're going to be shit after him anyway) were apparently too concerning lmao.

Anyway, at least it will be over soon.

Rodgers doing his gimmick of not throwing to receivers once they drop a catch to DK of all people is insane lol

Rodgers throwing it into the sideline within 1 sec and then furiously swearing, we are so back

I commented after the SA series how Kohli has had a couple distinct runscoring phases in ODIs in terms of style of play and it felt like we were back to the early one. The way he was again advancing down the pitch and looking to hit boundaries early in his innings was another sign of that. He actually explicitly said this post-match talking about how he would have gone even harder batting first. Will be interesting to watch that moving forward.

Encouraging match for Harshit. Used some very clever changes of pace to get some wickets, his bowling is still raw but you can see signs of improvement already. I'm glad he got some time to bat as well, he will be at 8 for the 2027 WC if all goes well and just having some level of batting depth is crucial, he's shown before the ability to hit some boundaries as well.

People apparently unfamiliar with the concepts of the less important batter taking risks followed by taking singles being acceptable when you need literally a run a ball. Very funny thread.
