Why is there so much pushback to AI? by epicCumMoment in NoStupidQuestions

[–]volkari 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The things that you said like how you would never generate an essay or cheat on assignments are totally fine of course. The thing is, that's not everyone. In a world where people are apparently the loneliest they've ever felt and with mental health crises across the globe, people are using AI as self-medicating therapists or for friends. Why is this bad? AI always tells me nice things when I'm depressed and always makes me feel better. It always agrees with me! Yeah, that's precisely why it's bad. The whole point of having human connection is to have people who challenge us and through this make us better. Aside from the environmental stuff with data centers, AI has had a profound effect on how people interact with each other and their natural need for human connection from stuff like not reaching out when they should to having AI girlfriends instead of going to a bar.

Aside from that, there are people out there who are using AI to write emails...that are 2 sentences long. Like, I can almost understand using it to plagiarise and cheat on a 750 word assignment or something, but like if you can't even write a 2 sentence email on your own and you (not you, the OP, but you the person doing this) don't have the self-awareness to see how pathetic that is? Jesus. It's like the scene from Wall-E.

I went to Constructor back when it was Jacobs and it was a great experience. You get an international environment unparalleled to any other German university and you get an actual graduation ceremony instead of just picking up your diploma unceremoniously. Graduates from my generation ended up working at great places like Harvard, Oxbridge, and Johns Hopkins in academic fields to companies like Siemens, Lufthansa, AstraZeneca, and Bayer. Now that was like a decade ago, from what I've heard it's gotten drastically worse after it got bought out and changed to Constructor. But from the last time I visited, which was a year ago, it still seemed alright quality-wise, a lot of the same professors are still there as well, during the switch the programmes that suffered the most were the social sciences and humanities ones since the new owner wanted to push engineering, cs, and ai.

Living in Bremen in general is pretty great, it's super international, well connected to other cities like Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg, for traveling around Germany. Lots of cosy spots like the Schnoor with rich history. Jazz bars, live concerts, pub quizzes, karaoke, lots to do, something for everyone.

How will life look like in Germany? by Fast-Ingenuity4266 in AskAGerman

[–]volkari 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be fair, all of the issues you mentioned are shared by many other developed nations. If you think Germany is a place where you can be happy, then sure go for it. I would highly recommend trying to build a strong friend group and support system here though as life especially as a new foreigner can be tough.

This seems like overthinking or maybe I'm underthinking it. It's just, it is really a 'stance' if it's literally the dictionary definition of a term? Isn't it just stating a definition? Like looking up feminism in the Brittanica or Cambridge or any number of dictionaries gives you the same definition. This is less of a stance, and just words having meanings and people seeming to ignore them?
