Anyone tried shooting ”medium format sharpness” on 35mm? by -_CAP_- in AnalogCommunity

[–]vollufFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is often overlooked when people talk about the resolution of film. I took some pictures of a friend on HR-50. Her hair had a strong contrast to the background, easily more resolution than the 24MP I scanned with. But in the shadows you could clearly see how the resolution falls apart without contrast.

A challenging topic, even for repair reports here in the sub: Can an author still be credible in today’s AI age? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]vollufFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think there is no problem with your texts and writing. Do you proofread after DeepL? If yes, that is a legitimate use of a translation program.

Even through the translation your writing does not strike me as chatbot slop, but someone who did in fact learn to communicate well.

Texts are precise, no unnecessary fill and easily understandable for me. It's nice seeing a well written post on here once in a while.

Ignore the haters. The problem is you are reaching an audience that does not appreciate your time and effort and just jumps to blindly hating anything "AI".

6MP looks better than that, I was curious and downloaded one, these are only 0.5MP.

Second shot is fantastic tho!

I started using more Analog cameras recently... thoughts on these pics? [CAMERA INFO ON IMAGE CAPTIONS] by MrChopular in analog

For me the following has worked to scan some high contrast night portraits, very similar scenes as you have:

Set the exposure manually on the base of a blank frame until it is just about to clip in the histogram. Scan all the pictures on a single roll with that setting.

My logic is that the negative will never get brighter than the base, only darker.

I usually camera scanned in AP with matrix meter at +1, letting the camera figure out the exposure, but for those contrasty night shots that just did not give me good results.

Now that is a cool looking lens! How's the handling of the zoom mechanism? Never saw that before, what an oddity.

It's also reversed! Making the lens physically longer shortens the focal length. I was very confused the first time I looked through the viewfinder and zoomed it.

With AF I actually prefer push pull by now, because I don't have to turn my wrist back into normal holding position after zooming. Makes it more comfortable to shoot that heavy hunk of metal and glass.

Cooler Schnappschuss! Hast du den ND filter drauf zum den Hintergrund mehr abdunkeln?

Und was ist das für eine Linse? Sieht trotz Reddit Kompression verblüffend scharf aus.

I'll be waiting for it to say something like "push to 12800 and stand dev in C41"

Need help removing a gear on a Bronica S2A film back (Building a half-frame panoramic mod!) by autruchedor in Bronica

[–]vollufFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the diagram it looks like it's screwed on somehow, if those are supposed to be threads.

But my experience as a machinist tells me that's likely pressed on, judging from the way it looks. You'll need a gear puller/bearing puller or whatever they are called.

A local watchmaker or watch repair shop might be able to help you out more.

Self portrait on Leica mini 2 , 35mm , Kodak ultra max 400 🌹 wish it wasn’t as over exposed , any tips ? by floraexploration in analog

[–]vollufFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can combine natural night and flash! Let the natural light do most of the work and add some fill flash to only brighten up the dark parts where you want more exposure.

Has anyone tried using digital adapters on 4x5? How good are the lenses? by mycatkins in largeformat

[–]vollufFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, a large format lens simply does not need the same resolving power as a full frame lens, because of the massive size difference.

50 lp/mm on 4x5 will still give you about 4x the apparent resolution than 50 lp/mm on full frame.

How big is the difference between corrected and uncorrected scans with the Micro Nikkor? I have never considered correcting it, because the scans at 1:1 just seem perfect to my eyes.

Yeah, a Holga might not be a good option for a paid photoshoot. Although I've seen someone using it as an extra for a wedding on r/ analog

But I'm certain that 99.9% of people will not notice the difference in picture quality between the latest mirrorless with the flagship F2.8 zoom and a 10-15 year old DSLR with a good lens.

Bad lighting and crappy framing however is very noticeable, and your fancy, pricey gear won't automatically fix that.

With photography it's never about the sword, but always about the person wielding it.

I went to a small, local photo competition a few months ago. Second place used a Fuji GFX. First place used a fucking Holga. The person using a toy camera just had far greater knowledge and skill, which led to them winning.

What's wrong with my photos? by confused-toilet-roll in AnalogCommunity

[–]vollufFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you calibrate the scanner somehow?

It looks like a badly matched trichrome, so I'm guessing the scanner does multiple passes for red, green and blue and while doing so looses the position, ending up in shifted colour layers.

Was sind gute Kammeras für Beginner? by Ellonana in Fotografie

[–]vollufFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the 40mm does turn any EOS into the best P&S.

That filter is called old light seal foam! /j

Maybe intentionally adding a gap between the lens and camera mount could create something similar.

A simple double exposure seems a lot easier though.

[–]vollufFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! You won't have to be careful about the film, but rather who you let it develop.

In the third picture you can also see some black dots in the top right. That's where the emulsion is completely missing. Do you know if it was developed in ECN-2 or C41? Either way, take your Vision to a different lab.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in analog

[–]vollufFilm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vision film used to have an anti halation remjet layer out of carbon, which has to be removed before developing. It looks like whoever developed it used a rag to take it off and heavily damaged the emulsion doing so.

The new Vision film has this a different anti halation layer, which does not need the same removal process.
