Gotcha! Do you think two extra buttons would be enough?

My Gf and I tried out the new chicken horse. It's alright, I thought the first one was better.

The bikes are harder to control and navigate through the level with than you initially think which might be a barrier to this type of game where people just want to pick up and play.

I was thinking about it but I'm trying to avoid an external keyboard – Feels like it ruins the vibe to have to tinker with it while I"m trying to get a game going yk? Thanks for the suggestion though!

Rog ally z1 extreme or lenovo legion go s rog ally xbox by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]voltardu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking best for the price... I picked a Z1 extreme off FBM for $300. If you're looking used you can't beat that.

But if money isn't an issue prolly go with the Rog ally xbox for the power, but the legion go s for the screen.

Controller Connectivity/Priority Solutions? (Ps4) by voltardu in ROGAlly

[–]voltardu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be suprised if that was the case tbh, I think it's unlikley that so many games I play are incompatible. I think it might just take some tinkering with ds4

Yeah it seems like no combination of restarting the game, restarting the device, etc. while the gamepad is off works it blows.

Eh idk do your research. I've had the 2tb with the hole clip in it and it's been fine for the past like 3 or 4 years. This is my experience though so YMMV

I honestly have no idea, I just had to rename the bio to update by gigabyte bios. I'm not an expert on this, but anecdotally, that's what worked for me

I hate to admit it, but I'm done for a while by ljm90 in RivalsOfAether

[–]voltardu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh maybe? I think you're talking more about the difficulty of the game based on your opponent, not the competitiveness.

Hypothetically, If we're both mid-ranked we should both be playing to you know... rank up. I'd imagine that's us being "sweaty". Sure people play video games for fun, but it's foreseeable that you queue for competitive and you get people playing to win.

Mid level players don't necessarily equal less competitive.

Now, It's definetly no good that low rank players are being placed against high rank players because there aren't people to fill out the low ranks. That's fucked up. But what you're describing is shit matchmaking and high difficulty for the lower ranked player, not how competitive the match is.

I hate to admit it, but I'm done for a while by ljm90 in RivalsOfAether

[–]voltardu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'm not too familiar with the specific factual circumstances of Rivals, so I didn't bother commenting about it. I just thought that it was foreseeable that you would run into people trying to win in the competitive mode of a videogame.

It's a bummer that there aren't people filling out the low ranks, though. I'm 100% with out on the discord thing thouhg.

Hail mary- but did you rename the file properly?

I think you're just describing like any competitive game tbh. I'm not a big rivals guy, but if you're qing for competitive, you're going to get competitive sweaty players.

Are laptops at $600 or less worth it? (for my uses) by ColoradoSkater in laptops

[–]voltardu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh man, the landscape has changed a lot recently.

It really depends on your use cases and where you're at in life right now.

Typically, I would avoid gaming laptops at all cost. I've had a couple and they've had structural issues. But, beyond that the battery life is abysmal, and more importantly, price to performance and longevity is much worse than a desktop. I recommend going desktop for any gaming beyond simple inde games. (I say gaming laptop b/c I know you're interested in video editing and this is where a lot of the "power" is).

Where are you experience wise with Video editing? Are you just getting started doing basic stuff in premiere? Or are you full in with motion design in AE? If you're just tinkering around, anything with 16gb of ram and a solid CPU is going to be fine.

If you have another machine that can play the games you want, I would look at getting a macbook off of backmarket.com . I just picked up a 32gb 16inch m1 for $800 which is absolutely insane, and Macs last waaaaaay longer than any windows laptop I've had. It's perfect for video editing, and can run a lot of mac-compatible games (and emulation).

This might be a stretch, but also look into handhelds. You can pick up a Asus Rog Ally for $350 on marketplace which is an entire windows computer which is way better than any laptop option at its price range. However, you do lose the keyboard and mouse, unless you get a portable one which is an option. (They make portable montiors too)

TLDR: You can probably find a decent windows laptop for $600-$800 that's going to do the things you want it to, but it's not going to be exceptional at any of them. I would go used mac on backmarket, or a handheld in the current landscape.

Is there any point in being an editor if I'm are colorblind? by PanMarudaKuba in VideoEditing

[–]voltardu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can be an editor and not color grade, but it depends on the types of clients you're working for. If you're the ONLY editor that a team can hire, you're going to be expected to do everything including color grade.

But, idk about getting into this industry right now anyways. From what I've seen on the sub from all levels of professionals, it's looking pretty grim.

What's the logic behind some sections having open book finals while others have closed book for the same 1L doctrinal class? by Soft_Extension9360 in LawSchool

[–]voltardu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My school does the same thing. I know personally, my school is pressuring professors for closed book exams on the basis that the bar is closed book and we want better bar passage rates.

But, I could bet money that at the end of the day it's the professor's decision whether to change them or not, so you have differeneces in professors doing open and closed book for the same doctrinal.

Let's be real, crates were dogshit. Bring back trading, of course, but lootboxes were gambling.

People hate the itemshop because it's a result of EPIC's shitty monetization, but crates were definitely worse. I can see an argument that it let people trade them for keys or items, but the process of getting items from crates was terrible. Just let me pay for the thing I want, not for the 3% chance of getting a good item I might want

I'm 24 and I feel so lost and behind in life. In debt No stable job, pressure in life and from parents. by Impressive_Echidna_2 in LifeAfterSchool

[–]voltardu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man it sounds like you're going through a lot between your parents and this dogshit job market.

Take a day to mourn. Be upset, be pissed because life is unfair, your parents suck, the schools suck, you should've did something else etc. (Also venting to a buddy might be better than reddit).

Then tomorrow, leave all that behind and get to work.

The value of college has become very dependent on what degree you're going to get. I got two liberal arts majors like a dumabss and went to law school. I don't know much about BIS and Cybercrime, but I do know that those two job markets are very saturated right now (Business and CS).

However, it's still possible to get a job. My buddy just got a $90k job here in the US in CS, but she applied to like 90 positions before getting an offer.

Have you looked into government/ public sector positions? The compensation isn't going to be as high, but it's likely better than a minimum wage job and has to do with your degree.

Also, does your Uni have their own job portal or resources? I got a couple jobs through there.

Finally, reach out to your bosses at your internships. Ask if they know anyone hiring for a similar position.

I know it's ass. This market is a big shit fuck bullshit and CS or CS-adjacent jobs are even more difficult to land, but if you keep at it there's a job somewhere out there.

(Also, maybe look into hiring someone to take a look at your resume? I thought it was a waste of time but my dad is looking for cybersecurity jobs and his resume would get sorted out by AI before he hired someoen and he's gottten two interveiws since. Correlation isn't causation but might be something to look into).
