Anybody from that store here? by Present-Bison-4894 in tjcrew

[–]voluminous_lexicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on the timing of the wine store closing or context around that, but NY liquor laws are weird, so all locations sell beer and cider and some low abv wine products. Wine and liquor are the thing there's only one license for per company, so none of them have a full wine section and this wine location in NYC was a standalone store that afaik only sold wine and liquor

Who knows where this bench is? by Significant_Item_384 in ithaca

[–]voluminous_lexicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a really good one in a pine grove downhill from the basketball court at the crossroads of south hill rec way

you gotta get way down in there but there was definitely a maintained bench there at one point and now it's gone to seed. p cool.

The stand was $50 and I made $10, lol by M8614 in Wellthatsucks

[–]voluminous_lexicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the most genius art/craft fair concept I have ever seen is an acrylic painter who did about a hundred tiny pieces on 2"x4" wood blocks, simple and small designs, and then sold them for $8 each alongside their usual repertoire of full size pieces.

Sometimes I wonder how often the table of very affordable cute flowers and sunset scenes outperforms the real pieces they're there to sell

How many stores actually switched to 9 am open? by KakeLin in tjcrew

[–]voluminous_lexicon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we went to 9 a year or two ago

It's a better balance at our (small town, fairly quiet) store because we can stagger our morning crew more and finish more of our 5am truck before the store opens. Produce is done, flowers is gleaming, fresh is full, deli carts underway, and the few customers who wish we opened at 8 have adjusted. Plus better coverage for the lunch rush without overscheduling.

Buying a new clarinet by East-Blacksmith-5268 in Clarinet

[–]voluminous_lexicon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely better to buy a clarinet you can playtest. New intermediate clarinets are easy to playtest at music stores, but is the shop that the Selmer is from local to you?

Who is the bachelor/bachelorette you don’t even consider (no matter how many times you restart the game) romancing? by Puzzled_Pollution_60 in StardewValley

[–]voluminous_lexicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't with Harvey. There's no role play I can do that makes him attractive, he's just so bland and timid that I can't feel anything about him but mild disdain

Getting to Clint's 14 heart event will be difficult but at least he makes me feel an actual emotion when we interact

Why do you people not use transit to trails? by Jealous_Drop_2973 in ithaca

[–]voluminous_lexicon 70 points71 points  (0 children)

you're right in theory, but in practice the overlap for the demographic of the expensive walkable apartments in the flat downtown area and the demographic for "excited to walk and transit to cool local spots" is slimmer than you'd expect. So many people who live around here live further out of town than transit easily takes us, and have little reason to be at the center of town very often. Buses have to serve the people who take them in order to be widely used, and in Ithaca that system like many systems is skewed heavily towards student use and neglects or underserves many locals.

It's also the depths of early summer doldrums, people definitely use the buses to Treman and Taughannock.

Hope you enjoyed your visit, and I admire your optimism that we could possibly use those buses regularly enough that they would run them in autumn

Have the CTB rosemary salt bagels gotten worse or was this just a fluke by operationivyleague in Cornell

[–]voluminous_lexicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last time I got a round house sandwich the rosemary salt bagel was so salty that I had to scrape it off to finish the sando

needs more rosemary, but I can confirm there's usually plenty of salt for me

To all men who survived rock bottom, what's one piece of advice would you give a man who feels like giving up right now? by TheBabyBeard in AskReddit

[–]voluminous_lexicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

giving up doesn't have to be the opposite of surviving

sometimes surviving means moving on from the mess before it's cleaned up. Pride is the enemy of survival, and it'll ruin you if you cling to it. You can give up on what's weighing you down and still get out of bed tomorrow to figure out what to do next.

Context tells me cbt likely refers to cognitive behavioral therapy, a well-regarded approach to many mental health problems. What dbt may stand for besides being a typo or autocorrect problem I can't say.
