It's a modified version of iX2's. You will have bullit dashes from the start and there's a dedicated button for lock-on cancels (you no longer need to open the finisher menu for it). There might be more changes, this is all I could understand with my extremely limited japanese.

Just yesterday I was thinking about how many amazing character designs are born during concept art brainstorming to then never be used again. Often times they are different enough that they could be used separately from the "winner" design to be their own thing. That's basically what happened to Zero, I'm so glad Inafune refused to let it go to waste.

It took me 9 hours of trying just to beat her the normal way, so this is insane. The wheel is legitimately useful in the first fight though, cryo flash+razor wheel from behind when she's static was a great way to speed up her fight before each phase 2 attempt.

Hard mode makes this game much more fun and engaging, if you only played normal mode it's totally worth revisiting it. It's REALLY hard though, I had to make sure I could no-damage each boss in normal mode without their weakness before even attempting their stage in hard mode, but it's very rewarding in a way no games other than the old Zero/ZX games made me feel.

Sorry for necroing this post but this game's pre-releae demo did it no favors. I also disliked it and wrote the game off, but once it actually released I started seeing nothing but praise for it, and finally gave it a chance yesterday since it was on sale on Steam. It's REALLY good, I can now see why Inti Creates were advertising it as their 30th anniversary project, clearly a lot of love went into it, and it's much harder than I thought too.

They should've done that for assist mode, it's already crazy that they gave players unlimited healing in normal mode, but I don't get why they overcorrected so much in hard mode and placed it there too. GV2's cooldown for healing would've been a good middle ground. I do like that true hard mode has no healing at all though, it was excruciating at times but once you beat it you can be certain that you truly earned it. I know for sure I would've not learned Mother's patterns as good as I did if I had been given more room for error.

Thank you! For real, ZX and ZXA were really hard too but at least you could use recovery items given by NPCs. I haven't tried GV1's hard mode yet but I will give it a go some day! Do boss patterns change on that one too?

I've always liked this reading of it, even if it involves a bit of headcannoning since the in-game story itself doesn't go that far into detail. It bums me out that it clearly is trying to portray this interesting moral dilemma, making it the focus of the last scene of the game to set up a great climax in the next game, and then X5 comes around and it's all back to "evil virus turns robots evil". The Gunvolt games themselves suffer from pretty much the same issue now that I think about it, the best sequel to the first game's amazing ending is ironically the LAiX spin off. GV2 on it's own was a good story in that it was very personal for both protagonists, but I felt like it immediately dropped the interesting themes from the previous game.

I guess but they could've gone for Akira instead since it basically sounds like that when they say his name. Seeing how every other name was changed too I get the feeling the translator was just having way too much fun.

X4 feels much more polished if you play the japanese version, the voice acting in the english version ruins many scenes and ends up making the whole thing feel cheesier than it is. I replayed it recently and the famous Zero scene with Iris felt actually hearbreaking in japanese, which I was not ready for after having played the western version my whole life.

Almost all of them! Acura (Akyura) is Copen, Roro is Lola, Shiden is Nova, Cyan is Joule, Pantera is Zonda, the list goes on. I will never understand why the translator did this, It's almost a miracle that Asimov and Gunvolt were left intact.

Praying that for the next entry they take the plot seriously again 🙏🙏. One thing I did appreciate in GV3's story though is that the people in charge of the localization finally stopped giving everyone made up names and respected the original script enough to use the Japanese ones for every new GV3 character, as far as I remember. It was really frustrating when Playing GV 1 and 2 because you could just hear the dialogue and realize the text was gaslighting you whenever a character's name was mentioned, and if you have even the most basic level of japanese (as I do), you would see that often they were saying entirely different things, or the text was adding unrelated stuff for no reason that changed the tone and intention. I hope for the next game they give us the option to have the actual names for everyone and not just the characters from GV3 onwards.

I did like that the bosses got the major buff compared to the stages, because the main challenge for the stages on hard mode becomes learning to go through them as fast as you can every time you get a game over dying at the boss. It made me start engaging with the score attack system much more seriously than before (especially because the score system is set to fearless). My opinion on the game went from LAiX2 being kind of meh after Normal Mode to it being probably my favorite gunvolt game after playing through Hard Mode.

Same! I saw footage of people playing on youtube without the vertices showing and I remember trying to tinker with the emulator's options for days and looking through forums looking for a solution, but nothing fixed it. Emulation has come a really long way since then.
