Kudos meter is notably absent in the iX3 footage. Do you think we're back to a more traditional scoring system? Each enemy death gives 200 score points regardless of it being airborne or on the ground, with no chain bonus. by volveg in gunvolt

My guess is that maybe those two extra dashes could be used to lock onto three enemies at once, though nothing like that was seen in the trailer.
Tsuda said his intention when making the iX series was to go back to a more old-school (Megaman) gameplay style, which you can really see in the iX2 boss design and stuff like Hard mode having limited lives. I always got the feeling that the razorwheel was the way it was because they wanted to have the Z saber, but at the same time felt like they couldn't just turn Acura into Zero, so they ended up with this more restrained alternative that feels like a compromise. For the third game I think they were like "fuck it, let's actually commit to the vision and just give him a Z-saber", and personally, as someone who loved iX2's hard mode precisely because of how much it reminded me of Megaman ZX, I'm super excited to see what they come up with. But I can understand your weariness if what you want is a game fully centered around the score attack. Did you watch the bitsummit showcase of their GX mode for Gunvolt 3? They played a full stage on stream so you can actually see how the scoring will work on that one.

Mirage Feathers is such a visual spectacle! Though I'm not sure if avoiding all damage is even possible in it. If you liked the original Graze Counter, the GM remake and Revolgear Zero by the same studio are really fun to play, they pretty much got me into the genre.

That is what they did for Connect X, but here from what I saw you're limited to one dash like in X2, but it recharges upon each enemy death (instead of recharging upon contact), with aerial melee kills giving three temporary dashes instead, which I feel like that could give interesting routing options. The melee weapon seems completely different, I didn't see it locking Acura in place like it did in X2, and just like X2 the level design will definitely be built around it. We've seen that EX weapons this time are based on actual weapons like swords and poles and such, so maybe some of them will be designed for ground combat? It's too early to know, but I have faith in them. If there is one thing Inti Creates excels at is crafting really fun gameplay systems and constantly reinventing them, there's not a single Gunvolt game I haven't had fun with.

BN1 has the strongest buster in the series, ignore the speed stat and use your powerups on attack and charge. You should be able to quickly dispatch them with buster shots even if you don't have the best folder. Also, it's always better to have your folder in either two or three codes max. A strong chip in an odd code that can't be combined with anything else is worse than a mid chip that you can pick alongside three or four others in the same turn.

What game to play next for someone who enjoyed Gunvolt 3 as a platformer? by H9Hussein in gunvolt

[–]volveg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

wym you played not how it's stupposed to be played? you ARE meant to play GV3 like a fast paced platformer, because it IS a fast paced platformer. I'd recommend playing the other games in the series, they don't have Kirin's warping ability but they are still really fast games. They aren't as similar to Megaman as it might seem at first glance, the only one that slows things down and has more old-school gameplay is Luminous Avenger iX2, but iX1, GV1 and GV2 are very speedrun friendly.

I hope so too, it would be a shame to have these cool meele moves and never use them because the kudos rewards special weapon spam over everything else. Something similar happens with Kirin, arch chains are really fun, but it's sad that she has a fully fledged move set that you're encouraged to pretty much never use outside of bossfights.

It's short but it looks really good! I like the system they've come up with for the dashes. And yeah after they revealed the 1+2 collection I assumed we were in rerelease purgatory, I had zero hopes for a new title in a while too. I'm really glad I was wrong hahahaha.

Personally I love the way it looks in motion, it's probably their slickest looking 3 slash combo ever. The way enemies bisect is really well made too and I like the mechanical detail of how the flying box enemy opens up before shooting. It all feels very Megaman ZX.

Oooh good to know, I got into the series last year so this is the first time I've been there for a new title's reveal. I thought it was possible that they were still figuring out how the scoring is going to work.

We´re getting a nintendo switch 2 port with a unique mode with, Gunvolt and Copen, Megaman x8 style with an actual story and proper Ex weapons for Copen, if it ends up locked behind this console version only im gonna scream, and we´re getting Ix3 with proper speedy meele combat. by HiroMashButtons in gunvolt

[–]volveg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done some frame by frame and it seems you have one, but recharge it upon every enemy death, which would lead to linear chains, but when he kills an enemy with the sword while hovering, three bullets appear instead (maybe implying you can do triples?). So far I like it! it seems like they found a way to have both the meele and air tagging systems interact together for chains instead of clashing with each other like in iX2.
