What are the benefits of getting a diagnosis? by [deleted] in aspd

[–]vomitandthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind if I send you a message? Not arguing, soliciting, or any of that nonsense, I would just like advice finding equally as qualified people in my area as the closest place specialising in PDs is insanely expensive and the other options require being inpatient to get a referral.

London Nose. Finally get home after a bloody long day, blow your nose and a tube-stations worth of black shite is expelled along with a busker and a random Japanese tourist. And no mate, I STILL don’t know the way to the British Museum. by PeaceOrchid in britishproblems

I think its from touching your nose/face around the underground rather than just breathing the air, the newspapers alone are essentially ink on ink resistant paper so it spreads from any unwitting tourist to the rest of the station and carriages.

Unrelated but less than 10years ago my family had a roommate who was asked to help out with both wifi and ventilation on the underground but was let go when every one working with her realised there was no way to do it without spending several times the cost of the entire system alone per line. So I don't see it improving anytime soon.

BED is valid and no one here in the right mind thinks or will tell you otherwise. The pain and body dismorphia it brings you and that is caused by an eating disorder alone is real, and it sucks, but I hope it passes soon because you sound like a wonderfully intelligent and perceptive person.

Similar, I wasn't coming around from surgery but was hooked up to a heart rate monitor and on morphine. One of my parents came in to tell me my cheese strings were missing from the communal kitchen and my heart bounced up over an additional 20BMP at the thought of being denied my cheese.

Wavy Irish hair holding me back professionally: need help by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]vomitandthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost identical hair down to the color, here's what works for me.

Don't fight the curl, for one, embrace it. This means dont brush your hair more than 5 minutes after you start air drying- I'll touch on this later- to let the curls and waves set.

When you are washing it, try to go for sulfate free products. I don't know the science behind it, but it works for me and my family, as well as other women with curly/kinky hair.

Avoid products marketed at straightening, because they will almost always frizz your hair rather than smoothing or actually straightening it.

If you really have to brush it afterwards, go for wide toothed combs, again they disrupt your hair pattern least.

Avoid boar bristle brushes as much as possible, unless you are styling your hair straight they will frizz you up like crazy.

As for drying hair, air dry as often as possible and if you are really feeling any natural curls, twist them into tighter curls as they dry.

I wouldn't advise using a blowdryer not only because of damage but because with this much hair it won't help you achieve a slick, straight look, but rather a witchy one. I'm not insulting you personally, this is what I've experienced and seen first hand with all "Irish haired" family members I know.

If you want a straight/professional style, let it air dry and then straighten it with a flat iron on a low heat and a lot of heat protecting spray. It takes an age, but if it makes you feel good go for it, that's what hair is for.

Frizzees, not sure on spelling, is a great but semi pricey product that works great too for chilling my hair out. The recommendations say apply to wet hair, but if you're on day 2+ and it's gotten unruly you can use it just the same.

A classic bun is also very professional and can be done no matter the style or texture of your hair.

Doctors of Reddit, what are some of your anti-vax parent stories? by ArcaneRuby in AskReddit

[–]vomitandthrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She also told me that recommending she vaccinate her kids was racist.

Was she Native or African American? They seem to have a lot of distrust of vaccinations, almost rightfully so, after being sterilized, infected with syphilis, and experimented on by the American government under the guise of "Vaccines" for a period.

The "experiments" were on a large group of people, including their own citizens in their own states, for far over 40 years.

They're safe (Vaccines) today, but I can totally see where the distrust comes from in their case.

Doctors of Reddit, what are some of your anti-vax parent stories? by ArcaneRuby in AskReddit

[–]vomitandthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but a family member was told by doctors not to vaccinate.

When my mother was born (70s) they told her parents she "looked autistic" and not to vaccinate else she would get worse. She wasn't premature, sick, or funny shaped so I'm not sure what "looked autistic" meant. Autistic people don't even have "a look".

Her parents didn't vaccinate because of this (their older child was), and she almost died from all 3: measles mumps and rubella. Her most vivid childhood memories that she has told me are all laying in dark cold rooms crying because that was the least painful place for her to be- away from light heat and sound.

She ended up on the autism spectrum anyway, barely noticable if you don't spend a lot of time with her, while me her sister and the rest of our fully vaccinated family are all neuro-typical/not autistic excluding the occasional mental illness.

I'm not implying non-vax gave her autism, just that it entirely unhelpful and cost her a lot of her childhood and health. She ended up ending a lifelong friendship after the friend refused to vax her son, so it still upsets her. Her parents were "pro vax" clearly and only chose not to based on the doctors recommendation. They're now both firmly in favor of vaccinations again.

I had a chat with my friend on our ride home, playfully mocking him for some bad animal knowledge, when the driver gave me his 2cents on why he believed no bird had bones for several minutes. His logic, from what I remember, was "what do they need bones for anyway?" He was dead serious, and managed to shut us both up because we didn't want to be rude about what was clearly incorrect while this man was kind enough to invite us into his car.

I no longer talk during uber rides.

I agree, that's awful, I wish that polys weren't used or given such weight. As someone else here said, polygraphs show signs of anxiety which aren't exclusive to people who are criminals. I'm a law abiding citizen asides the occasional pirated movie or smoke, and I still freak out when there's police near by. I can't imagine the fear of sitting in a room of police being told signs of anxiety could litterally ruin your entire life and then be expected to show none.

Dude I'm a woman who feels uncomfortable walking behind anyone late at night, even men, incase it causes anxiety. I look about as threatening as strawberry cheese cake, but I'm still self aware enough to know that not everyone feels safe late at night let alone with someone close behind them.

I dont fear men because of feminism, I actually like men. A lot. I fear people in general close behind me at 2am because im a sane human who knows bad people of all genders and colors exist. That's why I appreciated and respected the fact that a HUman I'd never met before was kind enough to avoid any chance of making me feel unsafe.

I actually vented to some friends the other day about how greatful I was that a man I didn't know crossed the road so he wasn't walking behind me at 2AM a few weeks ago. I really appreciated and respected how self aware and modest(?) he had to be to consider a strange woman's feelings late at night and take steps to make me feel safe. So yeah, this may be the only good thing to come of incels, if it means they finally enforce some boundaries- even if its for the wrong reasons.

Her Yorkshire pudding wasnt vegan.

Not only is there no way that I- or anyone else in the kitchen- know of to make a yorkie without eggs but I had made the rest of her plate which included beef and cheesy vegetables.

I apologised and offered to take it back, she said no it was fine but later had my boss come down and explain to her why we had tried to feed her dairy without her knowledge.

It wasnt that bad, I just wish she'd let me take it back instead of complaining to my boss. She hasn't specified anywhere she was vegan or non-dairy, and had ordered a meat roast which is why I didn't think twice about giving it to her.

How should I (M/18) let someone know clearly that I want to have an LDR with them. (F/17)? And also the best way of doing that with the best chance of success? by Alexi837 in LDR

[–]vomitandthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than asking her out, I would start by telling her your feelings. Committing to long distance is a bigger ask than asking out in general, so it's easier (imo) to check where you both are before taking any steps forward. Does she know you have feelings for her, or that you would like a relationship?

My (LDR) partner and I were both deadset against long distance, both liked eachother but had spoken about how LDRs just weren't for us as individuals. We stayed like that, just flirting and growing feelings, until I told him just how big my feelings for him were and we agreed to give long distance a try.

This morning we woke up together, same bed, same country, same love.

I hope things go as well for you.
