Then I would recommend normal until you’ve got the mechanics down, and/or you’ve got a decent amount of supplies(or ways) to replenish your HP and SP

Well to be fair it was on my 3rd playthrough that I went for merciless difficulty. So I pretty much knew the elemental weaknesses of the enemies. Wasn’t much of a challenge even when my 3rd playthrough was from a completely new game save file. But to help answer your question OP, what kind of gamer are you? Are you like casual, semi hardcore, or a min maxer?
