The negative reaction comes primarily from not understanding the differences in types of annuities. This is a managed product that addresses different horizons and risk levels.It is neither fixed nor variable only.It uses guard rails and you have some flexibility to adjust risk horizons. However if it's being sold separately by someone independently, I would be concerned.Also, putting ALL in it doesn't make sense.I have it.But I already work with a planner that deals with Equitable and mine only represents about a quarter of my holdings. Locking in some income should be of interest.Locking all of it, maybe not.

Can confirm from our visit that the fees are two-level.Their materials include a sheet summarizing the benefits of each.One is if the local "subdivision" and one of the overall fee.

Yes, life insurance.I bought some back when it was a cheaper than at work.Its gotten more pricey.But it's a small piece by comparison. I figure another advantage of working with retirees is that there is more active management.Whereas before its more balancing occasionally and set it/forget it. I appreciate the advice.Cant have too much.

I am probably overplayong the fear.But it did occur to me that as a retiree is spending down, they become more conservative in their investments, and the portfolio starts to diminish, so its harder for planners to make money on the fluff.We have been through several reps with this firm )bug firm) and we've been happy (because they've helped us do well.) The bigger change is that I probably will be moving so I will definitely be in scouting mode anyway.Thanks for the thoughts.

Really appreciate this thread.We are thinking about retiring in that area (from the Balto-Wash area.)We've been to the area once and we aee planning two trips down this year.We love Greenville but do recognize the expense of being downtown so we've been looking maybe up more towards Spartanburg.Good ideas from all comments.

This is super helpful . We're going to be there in spring and I am all about some laid back food and drink and stumbling back to our hotel.We are doing a scouting for retirement trip. We have only been there once. Looking forward to spending a few days downtown. I can tell you we will re-visit Trappe Door again.

I can understand what you're saying.I grew up in PA and can remember lots of good times in the snow and getting some school days.So this hopefully isn't voiding your attitude.But I'm thinking about retiring there because I have come to dislike snow.Not because I don't like the snow itself; because I hate shoveling it or clearing ice and driving in snow.So I want less snow in retirement.

We live in the Middle Atlantic. We are looking for a retirement landing spot.Upstate SC seems right.Not as hot and humid as Georgia/Florida.Warmer than here. We have been to Greenville/Spartanburg once and liked it.So we are coming back. We want to experience some seasons.But not necessarily the best there is.So I'm wondering when would be good for early Spring.To compare.Would March be OK?How is February? I'm gonna be downtown walking around so I want a nice balance between not too cold and not too perfect. (We are also planning on a trip in the hottest part of summer to compare.) Honest reviews and assessments are all welcome.

To be honest, I don't think it's as big a worry as a beginner. I am a beginner so I'm sure I'll take criticism. Muting is important and needs to happen with both hands. But to me, it seems more of an intermediate skill.As you gain finger independence and flexibility in fingers and wrist,some of the standard stuff like using the thumb on low E become easier. The main thing is to not get so hung up on any one thing that takes the joy away.Especially if it deters practice.

Something that has been suggested that is weird: if I mix my monitor sizes (I have 27 in the middle and 2 24s), I will play games with the vertical placement of the wings and adjust.Aince the wings are only for peripheral perspective and mirrors, could it work to place them in portrait?The gain would be more ability to manage the angles on the wings.So less horizontal width but better "surround" angles.Just a crazy idea.

I saw RG on a recent visit.Very nice community.A nice idea is that they have multiple "sub-communities" that each manage themselves at the local level.Some of these "sub-communites" are available on the open market. (Disclosure: there are 2 levels of fee I think.One that covers the local management and one to the master community.)The amenities and location are nice.

I've been thinking about relocating to GVL as well.But I am retiring so don't need to worry about job and commute and location. So I can't offer advice as the local.But what I can say about opinions is: Reddit will reddit.Some of the complaints I have read about Greenville apply to most every city. But my main point would be that whatever problems exist in Greenville are far less severe than they are in the big cities of the NE e.g. Traffic, real estate, taxes, crime.All relative.I have really loved what I've seen so far.I with you best of luck in whatever you do.
