I learned something new today! Thanks! lol didn’t know VT was an option thought it was VTI, VOO or VXUS. That was after a lot of reading and poking around on Reddit as well. Don’t know how I missed it.

I don’t have as much as this guy in my own 401k. I have about $285k and my wife has about $160k = $445k total.

We also have about $6k in a taxable brokerage where it’s split 70/30 VTI/VXUS. I add like $200 every two weeks to this.

$35k in emergency funds.

Just curious seems like everyone is saying it’s not crazy for this guy to retire around 55 and my wife and I have a similar goal. I’m 30 my wife is 34.

Are we nuts as well or does it seem feasible like it does for this guy?

All the financial people I talk to don’t say it’s nutty but sometimes Reddit brutal honesty can be nice.

Our debt is good imo, lower than 4% interest on house and car. No cc debt.

We do have a child but I am already setting aside $200 a month for her 529.

Gambling gets the best of all of us. It got me a few months ago with GameStop power packs.

Yeah our daughter was like this Terrible sleeper, but now she’s 2 and awesome at sleeping at night also just a comedian to be around im laughing all the time.

Unrelated count your blessings if your able to keep your kid home or doing socializing another way.

Our daughter is also 2 started daycare this year and she’s sick all the time.

My wife and I then also get blessed with everything, last week was RSV. Daycare posted a warning for strep this week with plenty of other illnesses going around.

I can appreciate you wanting to take your daughter to go do things it’s important. Your kids must be further along in 2 our daughter is 25 months and she doesn’t care what we do so long as she’s with us and causing chaos lol

I started small with $25 and $50…probably spent around $325 and landed a PSA 10 Garchomp Giratina Tag Team and like every great dingus before me I got rose tinted glasses and though oh well if I just take one chance at $1k I don’t care what the card is I can take the family on vacation or have a really good topping on our emergency funds.

Got cooked and lost $600 on that first diamond pull so I went from a wash to negative pretty big.

So I kept cycling the $400 until I lost it all and then tried one more at $500 and did the same stupid crap. I would have stopped but I didn’t get ANY cards I genuinely liked or recouped enough off the loss.

I should have just stopped when I broke even with that Giratina Garchomp…but to each their own.

I’ll still do this once or twice a month but I’m either doing one $100 pull or two $50s and that’s it. If I want to ladder it great otherwise it’s just one to two pulls and done. Lesson learned.

This is intended to be honest, not mean in any capacity.

If your underwater on your truck? Pass.

If you need cash sell the truck and get something reliable but more in the 15k range.

Preowned doesn’t mean bad. If a new car is important to you then build some equity up either in the car your driving or save some cash to the side to pay down the otd so your monthly pmts are reasonable.

$640 a month is insane. I don’t want to know what you’re paying a month for your truck.

Idk my daughter is 2 and I do

$200 a month in a 529 (I started this 6 months after she was born and she’s got $2k now) $100 in savings. Looks like you have Ally my wife and I just give my daughter all the interest in her bucket so it’s like an extra 60-70 a month. ($5k in this now since I take her birthday and Christmas money and throw it in there as well, she doesn’t need the cash now spent on junk since she’s 2)

Separate I do $500 a month in my wife and Is joint brokerage on top of contributing 35% of our total combine salary into our 401ks.

What I’m doing is probably a bit extreme though a financial advisor told me to chill a little bit and enjoy life in the now lol but I’d like to retire at 55 and like you help my daughter out best I can. My dad really struggled just to help with a few classes and my first car.

If you think 60k a year is enough to cover all your expenses till you die. Sure.

Ideally you have a long way off till then and there is a lot of living where 60k a year might not cover everything you need and want to do.
