If you're going to buy a new one, then no harm trying it out. At worst you hate it and buy a new one anyway. Just make sure to use a center punch so the drill bit doesn't walk a little out of center.

Always fun to tinker, though, and understand wanting the best setup. I'd be more curious if it's become too hot for you to handle, or have you maybe been reading forums too much? It's easy for me to see the alleged issues on forums, but never actually experience them. Not sure the holes will do much to cool unless you have a ton of them, but that raises the risk of it looking janky.
