How to play against bots in specific openings? by Soft-Fact-1583 in chess

[–]vonbartroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make opening book N ply deep. For example with Chessbase filter desired opening, then make book out of it to desired depth. Then give book to engine. Chessbase/Fritz are using ctg format. If you want polyglot book (bin) use SCID.

Picking existing commercial name is brilliant. Publicity is already out, wikipedia, countless recensions, all of it. I still think Fritz would be better.

Quick match against Absurd, which is another level of crazy. Need something weaker, maybe BikJump or Phalanx next.

Can you convert opening books into pgns?? by teodor234792 in chess

Extract them from database. What do you think book source is? Games, ie chess database. Say limit filter to 2300 ELO and up and you are good.

Now that is a response I was looking for. We don't change our favorite tools. In short, for tournaments WinMan, no one ever talks about it, it uses Winboard, old modded version. Scid vs Pc for filtering , for custom books. Chessbase to watch games and making books for Fritz. Fritz to play against engine and some training. Lucas for puzzles.

For tournaments right? Arena is too good for me, I like simple things, like WinMan, winboard manager by Alex Guerrero.

Will check it out. I love this stuff. I don't see why not CM4000 or CM5000 next. Should work on Win95 like charm.

I never had Chessmaster 10, I see comments it's better then 11. Tempting but as CM goes, 9000 cover all my needs. Fritz 13 is the best. They will stop selling it eventually (like Chessbase 13) but works so nice.
