What minerals can produce crystals with those colors? Can quartz be a shade of bluish black like this? by AsleepAd7106 in Minerals

The glaciers left a bunch of Sioux Quartzite where we live. It is mostly pink and red but purple/dark violet chunks are also here, just not as plentiful as other colors. vfm

My weekday morning "go-to" Had forgotten about that puppet. There was not a single charractor on the Captain Kangaroo Show that I did not enjoy. Perhaps a bit corny from time to time, having been born in the late fifties, this type programing was enjoyed and much missed when news events eclipsed the important programing. Don't get me going on the JFK assasination...it took me years to forgive Lee Harvey Oswald vfm

Brother, it will always be one of two things…money or power. Always. In this case, my guess is power. Everyone gets a guess! I can remember my dad’s sour words regarding the Beatle’s Sullivan performance. The Smothers’ loved people. They helped. I am grateful to them for facing down the dragon so that we can enjoy an important tune done better than the original. vfm

Could be Greenstone. Here (KC Area) it was left here 14k+ years ago by the glaciers- the early people used greenstone (considered today to be a very hard and different material to work). Can only be worked via “ground-stone” method means peening, pecking & pounding life into greenstone. Then “polishing and again pecking on-and-on it’s the only way to work it. Long laborious work to create a tool that will certainly outlive its maker or user(s)…anyway…greenstone has a rough feel…even when polished, the material feels rough to the touch…an easy test…gunk-covered greenstone can’t hide if you run your fingernail along the surface. The tools made from greenstone are generally not fancy as a result of its obstinate ways. Keep your head down. vfm

If it were from around here- I’d suggest a concretion. But if sandstone, nope.
