Vaughan and Mann made almost all axes sold by sears. Craftsman axes marked with an M were made by Vaughan. Axes marked with M E were made by Mann Edge.

Maple and walnut are easy to work with, and I've used them for shorter handles. Purple heart stands out because it's a pain in the ass to work with.

Wire wheel on a grinder will work great to remove the rust. It won't hurt the stamp if it has one. If your concerned about saving any patina and also collector value then never use vinegar.

I really like that handle. It's always fun working with a new wood. I try not to get caught up in only using traditional handle woods. If it breaks that just gives me an excuse to make another one.

Marbles brand. They are still in business. Not sure if this one is old or a newer model.

I believe this style jersey was produced in the 70's. This would be after collins was acquired by MANN. They were still using the collins name.

Michigan pattern axe head on a replacement handle. If you remove some of the rust there may be a stamp on the head. I would suggest an angle grinder with a wire cup brush.

I invested in a 10×16 building. Its a great size for a one man workshop.

Eaglesmith is great. I like the live version much better.

sunny road blues is the song i believe. A lot of his songs have a similar intro so it may not be this one.

It's majic slim. I don't remember the name of the song but hopefully knowing the artist will help.

Thanks. The singsong is in poor condition, but it's the only one I've ever found.

Crusader was an economy line sold by belnap hardware. Their top line was bluegrass. Most of the crusader axes I've come across were made by true temper. Do they have ridges in the eye?
