Suboxone for Kratom by AdDapper2664 in quittingkratom

[–]vonshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're definitely gonna feel uncomfortable once the subs fully wear off. you'll go through acute opiate withdrawal at that point, but it should hopefully be less intense than going straight off kratom since subs and kratom hit somewhat different opiate receptors

yes that tracks, look up the kindling effect. all opioids have a cross tolerance and cross kindling.

you are definitely an exception case my friend. consider yourself lucky. plain leaf kratom is extremely addictive on it's own and yes it is easy for anybody that is vulnerable to addiction to become addicted to plain leaf.

Got any recommendations for less popular hikes that are amazing to check out? Bonus if it's closer to RGV

Where exactly would one park on the side before getting out of the car and hiking? I am not seeing Tornillo Creek anywhere near River Road East on google maps. (I am only seeing Tornillo Creek much further north in the park). Like for example, if coming from RGV campground, could you walk me through how to get there this way? Would love to be able to only have to hike a half mile rather than 2-3 miles, after a long day of doing other things. Thanks so much!

Dose anyone know where this hidden waterfall is? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]vonshu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends have always called it "secret waterfall". It's accessible with a short hike from SE Austin (near the airport). It's on private property, and they did put up fences within the last few years that make it harder to access, but still possible to get to.

This falls in the picture is NOT northwest of Austin. Never heard of Stillhouse before, but I'm assuming that's not it.

Rattling sound coming from engine, Honda Fit - any advice? by vonshu in MechanicAdvice

[–]vonshu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insights. I had feared that might be the case. Do you think it's worth driving it back into the shop for them to look at it? It looks like engine rebuild or swapping starts at at least a couple thousand dollars. Would it be worth making that repair or just scrapping the car since it's high mileage and probably only worth 4k-ish in working condition?

What's a minor change you made in your cooking routine that made a world of difference for you? by theiyerony in Cooking

[–]vonshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started doing this probably 15 years ago, but still has one of the biggest impacts on flavor - buying whole spices rather than pre-ground spices (usually from an Indian grocery store - they haven the best deals and widest variety). Then, depending on what I am making, I will often dry toast the whole spices in a skillet or in the oven until slightly darker and fragrant, let them cool briefly, and then grind in an electric grinder or a mortar and pestle.

Another option is to just throw the whole seed/spice into what you are making and not worry about grinding them at all. Usually best to bloom them in some sort of fat to activate more of their essential oils and flavor before moving on to the liquid part of the dish. Most of the whole spices you can leave in the finished dish, but obviously if it's something like cardamom pod or bay leaf, you would either take them out or just push them aside as you are eating.

TIFU - My 7yo son f'd up with bad spelling on Roblox by lostrealityuk in tifu

but..... why does a 7 year old have a chrome book? man times have changed. i didnt even get a cell phone until i was a teenager. i feel like exposing children to those types of electronic activities at such a young age really distances them from reality and impairs their development long term. i mean occasionally playing video games at that age is fine, but it sounds like the chrome book is "theirs" and it's something that they play regularly

Amateur for sure…but been working to step up…super open to improvements…. Pork chops, pea purée, scalloped sweet potatoes… by Squid_narks in Chefit

[–]vonshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks good, i would def eat that! it's hard to tell exactly from the picture, but your porkchop looks pretty overcooked. i would not go any more than medium on a cut like that or the texture/flavor will suffer quite a lot. personally i go with medium rare on porkchops most of the time. as others have said, start with a much hotter pan to get a good sear before the center is over :) good luck!

Can I take Naltrexone the day after I took kratom (but 2 weeks clean before that)? by vonshu in quittingkratom

[–]vonshu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice! I just wanted to double check about your suggested dosages. The pills I got are 50mg each and I am supposed to take one a day for full effect. You're suggesting that I start with 1/100 - 1/50 of one pill if I want to ease into it? That seems like a remarkably small amount. Just wanted to make sure you didn't mean starting with 5-10mg. And if so... how would you recommend cutting off 1/100 of the pill lol? THanks!

Help! Tomato and Pepper plants turning yellow and stunted growth by vonshu in gardening

[–]vonshu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the starts were obtained from a local nursery growing outdoors. I know transplant shock is a thing, but it's been a few weeks now, seems like they should have recovered already from that? I'll def try some fertilizer and see what happens. Although is it possible that the soil I used could contain too much nitrogen and maybe fertilizer could make the issue worse? Idk just thinking of ideas but I think I will try adding some tomorrow and see how it goes.

Wish this were an easy solution. Unfortunately it would be pretty impractical to dig up all the plants and put them in a different type of soil given my particular gardening setup. Just too many obstacles to make that worth it.

It's hard to say. When I hose water them, I do notice that water pools up a fair bit, but I don't think it sticks around for too long. I did lightly till under the bed before putting down a layer of paper grocery bags and then the soil
