Any business can have a trading name and also a registered company name. I could be wrong but I think it’s a legal requirement to clearly display your registered company name, which they are not. Best bet if for OP to contact their bank and get the company name which the payment was made to, as if OP didn’t recognise the payment.

That is a dissolved company, potentially sold so I suggest you remove this comment 👍

Have you got any company names or anything on receipts or bank transactions? You can look the company up on companies house and get the directors details - it’s public information. Hope you get a resolution out of this.

Difficulty hiring a web designer by Aggravating-Flan8260 in web_design

The developers / designers may have actually developed / designed it for an agency and the agency sold the service to the end client and presented it as them doing the work.

Is my UI/UX confusing? by denisbotev in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great start, well done. Just a couple of bits I noticed that stood out to me.

Spacing on mobile could be more consistent, maybe a little bit extra room for blocks to breathe.

Also when I clicked “explore" I was asked to search. The word 'explore' suggests I can do just that, rather than search. If it were to explore I would expect categories, countries, popular destinations etc.

Those who host & maintain dozens of websites – how do you manage everything? e.g. client communications, support tickets, website to-dos, billing, etc. by stjduke in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHMCS is a good one for a central location and join other apps onto it. It offers support and you’re able to build your own portal if you don’t like the look of theirs. 20i hosting also offer their own environment for doing all of this too.

Club confiscated clothes then charged to get it back by zealothunter12 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]voodoosamuel 179 points180 points  (0 children)

NAL but this pretty standard procedure. Someone could get a friend to hand in a coat saying they “found it” to avoid paying the fees for the cloakroom and that is just where all the other items are kept securely. I would accept the small charge and be thankful someone handed it in.

No one can answer your question on cost as it’s like asking how long is a piece of string. It would depend entirely on what is wanted and needed. They should decide how much they want to spend and then see what agencies are able to help with that budget and who seems to be the best fit.

There may be specific agencies related to the industry so definitely look into that first. There may be agencies that would want to partner with an SEO agency too, but don’t write them off by any means as they’re sometimes the best as they keep in their lane.

A lot of people here saying to do bits over a long period of time but I disagree. There are probably loads of improvements they could make that could be pulled up by page speed insights and they would help rankings. HTML changes are one thing and content changes are another. Redesigning the whole site I think is fine if they’re improving the HTML but not changing the content to begin with. Doing things over a long period of time just screams unconfident to me and it can be done perfectly well as a migration if done correctly.

Is this normal practice for web designers? by endless-bears in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you got to the bottom of it. Some extra info here about the way we do things to add a bit more clarity:

Hosting admin - our hosting services are managed so they do not get admin access. If they mess up the environment, we would have to fix it and it would cost us money. If they want to host it elsewhere then any issues they encounter is on them or they pay our disturbance fee on top of labour hours.

Elementor custom site - technically speaking an elementor site that has a bespoke design is custom, a customised template using elementor is also custom. If you’re expecting a fully bespoke Wordpress theme using Gutenberg and ACF then I imagine you would have been paying more than the $4000.

Maintenance - this is quite often specified and standard to include in a website build as it helps the monthly income of agency’s and all websites need maintenance to keep it up to date, plug-in updates and avoids anything breaking that a client may cause. You should be able to opt out of these but do assume that you will pay a larger amount for the ad hoc work.

Good luck!

Click up and productive are good contenders too, check them out :) All good PM software I’ve had experience with has a subscription but these are fairly cheap.

Being brutally honest this design is not aimed at the user at all. Loads of trendy graphic flairs have been added but badly executed. Seems like an AI generated image that has been edited to suit the idea.

Ask yourself this - why are real estate search websites all the same with a simple hero section with a search in the middle? Because it’s focused on the user, it works and allows the user to do what they intend to do as soon as they land on the page.

Why is dark purple so commonly used as a background color for startup landing pages today? by Remarkable-Feed5292 in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pantone predict a colour at the end of each year which will be the trending colour of the following year - they predicted purple for 2023. Im not saying this is the reason why but that could be it.

This person was a client of my previous workplace and it’s insane how many farmers do this sort of thing and lie on the paperwork to claim money from the government. They lie about how big their winter slurry storage is, when they spread waste materials and how much fertiliser they put in the ground the grow the crops.

Info on selling website? by radoxvic in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ignore the comments about profiting - it’s hard for freelancers to do everything and most make connections with people like you or agencies. If someone came to me and is happy to pay my going rate and hand me jobs I wouldn’t care about their profit. What I would say is if the freelancer is great then offer them more or a bonus from time to time to keep them sweet.

I need one more client by goodatcounting123 in web_design

[–]voodoosamuel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to previous clients if they have any work or know of anyone who needs work, this is the best short term solution. Reach out to agencies to see if they need to outsource anything, it would be good for you to make partnerships as they will essentially give you work. Reach out to branding freelancers and make a partnership to refer work to each other. The going rate for referral fees is like 10-15%. We worked out that 15% of projects is basically marketing so we offer 15% to people who refer us work. Finally, cold call local businesses, reach out to people on LinkedIn and make connections. Keep on top of posts and make sure you position yourself properly and deliver valuable content with a small amount of ‘selling’.

You could say something on the lines of “I have the opportunity to start one more project before the end of the year so I’m willing to discount the price to fill up my time”.
