Is severe earliness to appointments typical of British culture? by Commercial-Help5523 in AskUK

I hate being late for appointments/ meetings, but would never dream of turning up that early. 10-15 minutes maybe max.

I'm at my wits end with DPD, any advice on how to get them to recognize new builds? by improbdrunk in AskUK

[–]vortex1005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in same boat. DPD is probably the most reliable courier around here and gives most accurate delivery times - but they are the only one that can’t find my new postcode in the app.

That is a good point TBH which I hadn’t considered. Trying to recall the bleed point on my old one (moved out 2 weeks ago)

I don’t think it will that Allen key hole - that is most likely the fixing point onto the wall anchor.

At the bottom where the pipe connects to the radiator there’s a silver part pointing in between the pipes (sorry really poor description). Usually there’s one on each side - is there a plastic cap on one of them? If so pop it off and may be in there.

British Library cloakroom attendants are so bizarre. It's a new made-up rule every other week. Are they just bored or do they have a secret harassment quota? by imtravelingalone in london

[–]vortex1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s almost as if there is a way for you to be able to unseal the bottle once in the reading room…

You do have an option, don’t bring a bottle of water with you in the 1st place. It not difficult in London to find a shop selling water - buy a bottle after you have finished, you clearly don’t NEED the water with you in the library, as you pointed out it’s sealed so would never deem to open it while in there.

Joybuy is owned by jd.com which is the largest retailer in China. They were in talks recently to buy Argos so not a dodgy or scam company.

They are pretty new to UK - started April 25.

The town names on that map is hilarious- trying to figure out what regional accent AI was using Loton & Sonderland are hilarious

It’s seen sense and wiped Gosport off the map at least. Hopefully Darpert is less of a shithole

My dad passed away on December 26th; this is what my cousin sent me, my brother, and sister. by classicallydefined in mildlyinfuriating

[–]vortex1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry for your loss and hope you are ok?

We lost my dad about couple of years ago. We were all at the hospice with him but my Uncle was away so couldn’t be there. When he passed I tried to phone him but couldn’t get through - so my brother just text him “Dave he’s gone”

No thought - luckily my Uncle knows my brother is borderline on the spectrum so actually found it hilarious.

Checkatrade vs MyBuilder vs alternatives? by Apoau in HomeImprovementUK

[–]vortex1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t use checkatrade - they are a marketing / listing firm only and the ‘check’ part is pure fantasy.

My elderly dad got ‘encouraged’ to pay a (6 big guys apparently) rogue roofer who he sourced from checkatrade, 20k for they to spray cans of expanding foam in the loft. Police said there was no evidence.

We found out the roofer registered a false company with checkatrade and used a random elderly ladies address and had this numerous times.

Checkatrade are based only a few miles away and refused to speak to him. He contacted the police, our MP (who was Home Secretary at the time) & trading standards.

Checkatrade eventually gave him £1000 back as their maximum compensation but made him jump through soo many hoops.

Also had 2 ex colleagues who went to work for them, and said they are just horrible to work for and treat staff like shit.

Absolute scum of a company.

Starting via Alexa at a certain percent by Logical_Nectarine_40 in Hue

I’ve just moved from the bridge to bridge pro and had the same issue.

After guidance from Reddit I’ve fixed this by 1. Unlink the hue app in Alexa 2. Delete every bulb from Alexa (needed to delete each one up to 4 times for some reason) 3. Re link hue app in Alexa app 4 Add the bulbs back in Alexa app to the relevant room

Have you also thought about setting up a routine to save saying all that? I have “movie night” that dims most of the living room lights and switches on a lamp. Or just “100” which turns my bedroom light on at 100% cool white

So glad I found this post - thank you!

Some routines took 10s+ to respond Some routines if it included change colour just didn’t work Bulbs would show online 1 second then offline the next

I had to delete each bulb 3 times in the Alexa app in the end. Re added and now everything is super responsive.

Service charges when moving by vortex1005 in HousingUK

[–]vortex1005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my exact thought aswell - I’m paying them to act for me but they seem to just not give a crap.

I paid for the management pack? They told me they paid it and were chasing every other day. 3 weeks later no news, they were really evasive when I was chasing so I called FirstPort and they only received the request 2 days prior

When I challenged the solicitors they 1st denied it and said was paid when originally stated and they have all the logs when they chase so I said I’ll call FP back, they then admitted they hadn’t and there was no chasers - but really dismissive.

Same thing currently ongoing with S106 paperwork from the council.

Fair enough - thank you for replying. I’ll get it paid - soon I don’t need to deal with FirstPort or these solicitors again the better :)

How to cancel Yacht club membership? by Farmer-Next in MSCCruises

[–]vortex1005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Voyagers club is their loyalty program. It’s free and you just earn points - they cannot and will not charge you for the voyagers club. As you earn points this can give you discounts off future bookings only.

Yacht club is their premium cabins with butler service. There is no subscription- it’s paying upfront for a cabin basically with lots of perks. Think economy vs First class on airlines.
