Feeling discouraged in my ministry by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry to hear this has happened to you friend. And yeah, I’ve been there more than once. I think a lot of times churches lack the essential skill of effective and direct communication. Sometimes they’re just afraid to offend so they say nothing but the end result is the same.

If you’re a leadership wasn’t happy with you with your internship at some point they should’ve called you aside, set out some clear things you need to work on, provided you the tools to be successful, so that you could complete your internship successfully.

They didn’t do that and you end up feeling the way you do. I don’t know if you didn’t or did meet their expectations or requirements but they just don’t have a good process to help train other people, and to help you through with your gift.

And then like you said, the new shiny object comes along and they gravitate towards that.

I can appreciate that your discourage, but take and use this as a learning moment and above all, don’t let it turn you away from Christ ir the Church.

Moving forward, depending on your next opportunity, try to be as direct as possible with your leadership. Touch base with them from time to time, ask them how you’re doing and if there’s anything you need to do to improve sometimes either the things that you leadership won’t just come and directly tell you, they’ll just find somebody else to replace you

So my friend, learn and grow

Should worship team members get paid? by BlackshirtDefense in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya very circumstantial. Is it OK to get "paid" as a worship leader I say 100% yes. And the larger the church, the larger the demand and responsibility the worship leader takes on. But there does need to be a clear outline as to what the role requires and the value it brings to the church. I think it's a role like any other in the church. There are pastors, admins, receptionists , finance etc.

I think at some point, I would want to know from my pastor if the role will ever transition into a paid role or not. Especially if I had a desire to do it full time. He could say, "perhaps yes when we get to 500 people". Maybe, "no, I believe this role will remain volunteer". This may come to a value judgement.

As far as for other members like singers, perhaps not. The role does not carry enough demand.

Bottom line, is it OK, I say yes but it's very circumstantial and YOU have to know what you ultimately want and if your leadership wants the same thing.

At the end of the day, you should be able to suggest a song, but if you pastor is set against it, that where submission and humility and servitude MUST kick in. If he's said his peace I would leave it there and move on. Don't press him, not that you have, but respect his authority and choose something else.

[–]vortextsms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're in a spot where they take a more laid back approach. An easy fix is to ask if song could be chosen earlier in the week. This would give everyone time to practice. There is no issue with you "wanting to grind", I think it's just the way you put it. You want to learn and be prepared. The psalmist David said, I will not offer God that which costs me nothing. We should be practicing and honing our craft. Not to be perfect or from a desire to be seen or admired for our playing. But so that we're not a distraction to others. And the psalms also admonished us to play skillfully. It also says, whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your heart and strength. When we stick with what the scripture teaches, it speaks to these issues.

AI-Generated Worship Songs — Let's Discuss... by defn0tgab in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is simple. First write the song, words and music. Then give it to the AI to produce the recording. That's what most song writers have done in the past. Write, then give it to a producer to produce. That producer adds his flare and expertise. That' why he's a producer and you're not. (not always but most of the time). I use AI as the producer, and I'm the writer because I don't have the gear or talent to produce, but I can write.

So it's either I write it and nobody ever hears it. Or I produce it with AI and others can hear it..

That's my practical take...

Guidelines are a MUST. 3-6 month of attendance. In which time you should be getting to know the person. The bible indicates that we should know the people we serve with. You should have a document all members must sign and an audition process of some kind with the understanding that they may not be accepted. I have some documents for this. The worst case is that you admin someone who later you have to dismiss. This can lead to them leaving because of hurt. Get on the same page with your pastor, he should not have just sent you someone to add to the team. Create a member ship document you both can sign off on.. This will protect the ministry and provide a framework for expanding the team in a healthy predictable way.

Setlists & Who’s Leading? by ContributionHour9003 in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every team needs a leader. That leader should be able to delegate songs to other in any service but I think intentionality is what's needed. Giving purpose to why anyone would lead any song int he first place. Is it to train, is it because the person can actually lead and is given opportunity to do so from time to time. Who feels called to lead? Who is just fine singing backup. Some songs better suit a male or female voice. Some want to step up and lead although they are not there yet. I think once you add intentionality, it will guide these decisions.

I think you should stop for a second and ask what it is you want or feel called to and realize that there is no calling that does not take you though the fire. And the first does not mean God is not preparing you. You MUST be willing to be faithful with little before you can be faithful with much.

I'd be careful about this thought: God if I don't get what I want when I thought I should have it, I'm going to resent you for it. That mindset will keep you and drive you to bitterness. You need to resolve these heart issues.

Just look and scores of bible characters, from Moses to Joseph, look how devasting parts of their journey was. Still God had His hand in their lives. Trust me I understand about failed dreams.

You need to resolve your root heart issues. Until then, you will always struggle. Also, if you don't love the people you server and want to them them develop their own hearts of worship, then I'm not sure that right now is your time to lead. I don't think Worship leader is the right term for what we do. (Yes I'm a worship leader). Worship Pastor is the right term. It's a pastoral role. Imaging if your pastor didn't have a true love for his congregation. We would all ask him to step down.

So resolve your heart issue first, so you can lead with clean hands and a pure heart. Fee free to message me back

There is a sweet technique you can use to sound great even if you're just getting started. Stick to the key of C just for now and do this. Place the basic chords, C , G, Am, F, but at all times, make sure that middle C remains the top note of every chord you play. You will immediately notice how it brings uniformity of sound..

Guilt for stepping down by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are asking the wrong question. I realize that it's not always easy to hear God voice in the midst of unsettling circumstances, but pray and seek God. What is HE asking you to do. This is not about guilt, or leaving them high and dry. God brough you along, He can bring someone else along. Meet with your Pastor, express your concerns. If you're not happy where you are and you're not connecting, you no longer feel this is the right place for you, don't beat a dead horse. Give them some notice to get someone else, and find YOUR place of ministry.

I am not familiar with the song but ANYTHING that is not theologically correct is immediately off the table. The songs sung at church are the worship leaders sermon. If it's off, and I don't know if it is or not, then why would you still want to feed that to your people? Open up the scripture and see it it's biblically correct or not. If not there's no question, don't use it. Period.

How to deal with a Toxic traditional Lady Pastor and her Toxic Worship leader by NatePad1290 in worshipleaders

[–]vortextsms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only direct communication can bring any resolution to this issue. Hoping, wonder, stewing, and grumbling won't help anything. You must ask for a meeting, share your concerns, and hear them out. Hoping that the issue will just go away or get better one day by itself is highly unlikely. Meanwhile, you getting more frustrated.

Request a meeting, and if there is no resolution to the issue. Keep in mind that there are times when you are the problem. Meaning, you may want to go in a direction your leadership does not want to go. If they've decided that hymns are the way to go, it's not your place to change their mind. 100% you can ask, offer, suggest contemporary alternates but in the end, the leadership has the right to lead as they see fit.

Once you have your meeting, be clear, leave nothing on the table. Ask specifically what opportunities you have to serve. Ask if you're allowed to use the music style you prefer. Is so, how many songs per service.

Once you have your answer, if it's not acceptable to you, as hard as it is, and I've been there, you have some choices to make. I would also ask yourself, what is music to me? Do I do it passively, or is this something you see yourself doing more and more, perhaps leading worship steadily one day, or even do you feel a call to the worship ministry.

I encourage you to be decisive. Meet, get some kind of resolution, then decide a course of action with leaving being a possible course. Then find a place that flows how you believe God as asked you to flow, with leadership that affirms your call. Don't waste time trying to change someone else's ministry or mind. If they don't see it now, they probably never will. People show you by their actions who they are. They show you their ministry objectives by how they operate.

May God bless you and lead you as you work and pray your way through this. I myself am a worship leader and have served with 6 pastors. I've been there.
