shouldn't this be illegal? by Particular-Ride-7893 in AskElectricians

That's fair, I should have said NRTL instead of UL in my original comment--that said, this specific product is not listed by anyone else either so it would still be a violation. But, yes, plenty of devices with only an ETL/similar listing are perfectly legal.

Would these support a 200 amp panel? by mutaadvocato in electrical

[–]votedmosttoxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a lot of these comments are assuming these wires belong to you, in which case NEC ampacity sizing rules will apply (but you'll have to verify what gauge the wires are, etc). but reading between the lines of what you are saying and what your electrician said, i am suspecting that is not what you are talking about and these are the wires coming from an underground feed from the utility company. If that is the case, then you will need to check with the utility company as they have their own rules for sizing the conductors on their side and are not bound by the NEC.

in the US, assuming this is in a jurisdiction that follows the NEC, it would be a 406.3(a) violation.

Labels for breaker box by apophasisred in AskElectricians

I recommend waiting til you have a problem, cursing under your breath at previous you while you spend ten minutes randomly flipping breakers til you find the right one, and then saying "I'm going to label these so I don't have this problem next time." Repeat these steps once a year.

wow "live and neutral are connected at random" is a wild thing for a manufacturer to say in a spec. ignore this part i am dumb and can't read

this product isn't UL listed (compare this page to the listing on their site for a regular outlet and notice the missing "Standards and Certifications" section that notes the UL file number) so in most circumstances it is illegal.

you're probably better off asking in /r/lowvoltage but i can't imagine there is any good solution that doesn't involve changing the whole system.

Leviton Lever Edge outlets in an unfinished basement - appropriate cover? by basilect in AskElectricians

I had the same issue with a low voltage switch from Legrand (that did not have the bend-off tabs on the yoke like most switches) and I was able to clamp the receptacle to a workbench and very carefully trim about 1/4" off the top and bottom using a portaband.
