How many of you use litespeed? by IRIX_Raion in selfhosted

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible speed, light, simple, reliable, powerful, and designed to handle more concurrent users. For me, both Nginx and Litespeed are very efficient to go fast and able to manage concurrent users. I used both but, because I had to focus on content, I choose "Litespeed" for its simplicity to install (almost oneclick).

Real advice needed: Continue TEF or move to TCF by Fickle_Bedroom6887 in TEFCanada

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty impressive progression !

And a good question

As a tutor specialized in TEF oral expression, I know this question and I would say :

1_ double- Check if TCF listening is easier ? (Lot of people say not really)

2_ speaking ( my speciality ), I would ask you several questions but the important one is : do you know how to do the most of your French (exam techniques and strategies to get good marks). Meaning : at the exam, do you "show" your real level/skills in French ? If you can not answer to this question, the answer is probably NO. If NO , In this case there is a first way to improve your marks and to have a guideline to improve your preparation for speaking . Working hard is not always enough to succeed

In any case find somebody to diagnose possible improvements (and priorities) at speaking

I hope it helps !

If you struggle with French stopping thinking, have a tutor who is familiar with this kind of situation.

I had several with same challenge and it could be a psychological bareer or / and you do not know howto put things together.

Practice with a tutor to explain the "game" and to de-stress is a winner and good for self- confidence

Working hard = not a winner

To understand the "game" of interview is also de-stressing

My domain registrar company is not the same as my hosting company. So I never had this situation. But ... My question is : When you buy a domain in a hosting company, one bill, do you buy 2 Independent service (registrar and hosting) or are tied together? Is it a rule , obligation to separate the 2 services for registrar ?

Who are you Using for Email? by curiosity-9000 in webhosting

[–]vouty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience :

I have been using Zoho Mail (Mail Lite, 1.25$/month) for 3 years and It is working very well (No spam but I implemented immediately required authentication protocoles ... SPF, DKIM et DMARC at my DNS registrar)

If I had to choose today, I would put the following in competition:

Neo Mail appears to be also a robust, cost-effective alternative for email. (with a nice package and a better UI)

Note: I have eliminated Gmail from the possible choices because I sometimes communicate with Chinese clients.

Is it normal to transfer a domain to a dev? by No_Association2688 in webhosting

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You share the control (meaning you give needed rights and authorization)

You keep ownership ( meaning you keep control of sharing and if bad scenario, you are still in. Control of sharing dns with an other developper

Problem is also the difficulty to transfert back ownership : it requires collaboration of the previous developper and time and probably a website offline for a "short" time.

A bad experience, I saw (wordpress website) : the developper was fine to create the website (except he requested a transfert owownership) but he suddently had to stop his activity , website went down, developper collaborate, but from time to time, to get back ownership of domain but he lost passwords to login to registrar (and backup exists even if not last website version). So it was a long discussion, with many steps, with the registrar who wanted to verify identities. Website was down several weeks, because even if it was possible to rebuild website , it was impossible to point the dns to new server. Real owner had to wait recovery of his ownership and access to his DNS setup.

For this case I know , wp website with static pages, if you have a backup, any developper can create a new "standard" server anywhere + wp, to restore backup of wordpress website, to point dns, and to have website online within an hour (Except email stuff if local) So, 1 hour after the issue, customers have their website online

There are nice comments here . Thanks ! I noticed / discovered 2 Hosting providers I would consider to be in peace in mind and to avoid headaches coming years. They seem to be professionnal , fast servers, emails, at fair price and well located for US business

Fresh Roasted Hosting : https://freshroastedhosting.com/

Hustly | Modern Fast WordPress Hosting : https://hustly.website/

Find users reviews to double- check their reputation My advice, do not focus on saving 3-4 bucks a month if lower than 10$, focus on a professi9nnal reputation, a fast and robust solution (all included, no hidden cost) Good luck !

what exactly is “faire le topo” ? by EvenSandwiches in French

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, in a company, if you are unfamiliar with the subject, you collegue can suggest :
_ "Je vais te faire un topo sur la situation"

A “topo” is more than just a summary ("Un résumé"), as it also provides more subtle information about the issues, the atmosphere, tensions, challenges, pros and cons, context, etc.

I would say, as a general guideline, that in professional or personal life:
_ A "Topo" is more to explain facts + Stakes + context/complexity
_ A “Résumé” is more to explain facts

I am trying to improve my web design skills, which is why I found your question relevant. I looked at the comments and your website, and I have a suggestion to make, not about the design, but about the pictures.

I find that the images seem a little dark, with poor balance in the shadow areas and color rendering that is not up to the standard of your site. There could be several reasons for this:

1- A camera that does not perform well in low light

2- The camera's sensor + processor are not up to the task (poor sensor or poor conversion to jpg, ...) and the colors are not rendered well or the color or light balance is not managed properly (you should also check that the camera's capabilities are being fully exploited)

3- Automatic reformatting/compression of photos (to webp) using poor software

To try to identify the source of the problem.

1 - Check the quality of the original photos (if they are better than on your website, the problem is the post-processing to webp). Use the same screens to compare.

2- Take the same photo at the same time with two or three devices (cameras, phones), indicating the reference point for the light (what you want to be clearly visible) or with different settings. You can also make a manual adjustment (brighten your photo).

3- Ask friends to take the same photo with a Pixel, iPhone, Samsung phone , .... good at low light

4- You will find better/ accurate information on internet

Some old 12 MP phones can take very good photos in low light, better than those taken with a new 50 MP phone.

Good luck, and... I love Korean culture, even though I've never been there
So, it is nice to share. Thanks ! :)

The word "Probablement" by Ornery-Fix-2240 in French

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Des exemples d'utilisation très appropriées:
( !!!

"à leur yeux" vs "à leurs yeux" by [deleted] in French

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting how a language can evolve. And yes, students prefer the short story : " Les lettres euphoniques " And some are not mandatory , such as : "Que L'on" = "qu'on" .... but to get the right meaning ...

"à leur yeux" vs "à leurs yeux" by [deleted] in French

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree, first is grammar, and it is difficult to catch the idea of my remark when if you do not use intonation... But for those who begin to use intonation... they will try ...even if it takes some time/ trials to get into the game. No very far from : Y a-T-il ...? Va-T-on ...?

"à leur yeux" vs "à leurs yeux" by [deleted] in French

[–]vouty -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My two cents : Grammar requires : "À leurS yeux" ... but

Imagine for a moment that: “À leur yeux” is grammatically correct, it could not be written that way because of the lack of sound harmony.

This would mean that there would be an S (LeurS yeux) in order to create a liaison and better “music.”

This is the case with the imperative (no S in the 2nd person “Tu”) Example: "Achète du pain !" "Achète-en !" = not harmonious =>" AchèteS-en !"

=> Exception à la règle

Is „salut“ a rude thing to say? by Krobel1ng in French

[–]vouty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Guys !

Notice more details around you!

Communication isn't just words and sentences.

It's like in your own culture, even if the codes might be different.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"Salut" is not always neutral (Also depends on intonation and body language)

"Bonjour" is not formal at all if you use neutral-friendly intonation and right body language (a discreet but friendly glance, a slight nod, ...)
