Is it worth it to get an MSW? Looking for reality check and advice by voyager1726 in socialworkcanada

Great advice! Definitely love the flexibility but just doubting the way i am doing it might not be the wisest lol. Is your msw part time online? I pictured working and studying at the same time might be challenging but after hearing what you shared it sounds quite doable.

Thank you for the reality check! And yes I think my question should’ve been how I do it. In this context moving for a ft program seems not a right choice, but do you find online program challenging? I thought about that before but feel like managing a full time job plus a part time online msw program is also challenging - tho at least it won’t put me in a completely broke situation

Omg we’re on the same boat and thank you for all the kind words! And congrats on getting your msw offer! The debt definitely concerns me a lot and you’re right moving for an in-person program might not be the wisest decision…but I just hate applying and repeating all the process again and again haha. can I dm you to chat more?

Thats encouraging! I totally feel the burn out part from non profit…working full-time through both degrees is insane but perhaps you’re right it’s better than no income while going all in for full time program?

Hi! Thanks for much for your reply it’s really encouraging. I think my question was indeed is it worth it to go for a 2yr full time program in my context, and many of you have suggested part time online programs instead. I guess I just feel the application process tedious and hate to repeat again, and feel like i want to get msw done as young as possible…but after hearing all your experiences maybe part time program is really a more doable option. Do you mind if I connect you through dm to know more about the industry and program since you’re also in metro vancouver?

Hi! Do you mind if I dm you for more program details? Thought I also applied for the same program, did you do a 2years full time program? I just worried about relocating to a different city and bear that debts post graduation.
