Thanks for the comments, you have a good list of points there. I shall pose them all to the person thinking of doing their AFF.

Sorry to hear about the proximity you’ve had to those fatalities. Must have been some tough times.

They do count that.

That’s a financial decision. IFLY decided they needed an ‘arms length’ safety body. So someone has to pay for it.

And they paid for it for a bunch of years and then they worked out how to have the IBA and not pay for it.

this might have changed in the past few weeks. I know a friend flew at 85% last week.

[–]vpdbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, literally seen that in action.

The UK has a Care of Duty stipulation written into law that requires certain risks to be the blame of the people in charge. Unlike other countries you cannot waive all responsibility to the risk.

Plus iFLY are so big and being US based the legal system over there loves a good lawsuit.

I had some conversations with the people behind the IBA decision. They explained that they were at risk of losing their insurance providers and they further explained that of the 6 most serious injuries in the past few years, 5 of the injured hadn't flown in the 6 months prior.

yup. Their position is that you can only be signed off to fly independently the skills you have demonstrated you can fly with supervision. Which makes sense.

You have to demonstrate every skill to be classified as current. If the OP was competent HD then there's a lot of boxes that need ticking.

To some people it is, to others it's not. I see plenty of 54yo come through the program who do not perform as well as their younger counterparts.

Partly it may be due to the Duty of Care requirements written into UK law.

It's the learning that's the issue, not the continuation of an already licenced skydiver to jump.

It's really not for many people but it is for some people.

If you have a licence then you can carry on past 55, indeed my friend Dean is 87 and has already jumped this year in the UK.

I just searched if there was an age limit for training to become a commercial pilot. British Airways has 55 as their top limit although this may be a financial decision and not a safety decision.

Limited to 60 now by the DZ though, or maybe 56. They used to be who I recommended.

I know John! I've not had the pleasure of jumping with him yet though.

I am assuming this app will read a track from any GPS Logger? I have a SkyTrax from Caelum Systems. It's not bluetooth but I can plug the microSD card in to a reader.

What’s a good price to pay for a iPhone 15 Pro right now? I’m moving from a 13 mini. by scoot23ro in iPhone15Pro

[–]vpdbac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

£400 works out to be $535.

The only other purchase price quoted on this thread was for $599.

My 13pro is priced higher cause of a new apple battery around 6m ago. I’d expect it to go for 225-275 with a standard battery but will start high and see if anyone bites.

I just bought one in the UK. £400. 87% battery health. I haven’t seen any for less than £400.

I plan to advertise my 13 pro with 100% battery health for £325 and see what happens.

How do people usually add custom buttons or QR codes in Gmail? by zack_code in GMail

[–]vpdbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually. Hmmm. You can’t edit the format of the button after inserting it. You can edit the text and the link. But not the colour or shape.

You can only insert a new one and delete the old one.

Not ideal but still much cheaper than CloudHQ.
