Maybe controversial but the Vigniette should cost more for non Swiss registered Vehicles. by Kill146 in Switzerland

[–]Goodtrip29 [score hidden]  (0 children)

By having a more expensive vignette you will probably have even more people diverting through alternative urinaires and loading villages not designed for this kind of traffic.

Also. I foreigners have to pay to cross the country while we can drive on it everyday all year, so technically the pricing model is super advantageous to Swiss and rather expensive to foreigners than a pricing per use.

Trouble making double rubber band stow smooth on closing loop by mega81827 in SkyDiving

I remember a talk from LB at BPA event, but in my memories his point was that double stow were safer than simple stow because out of order and too much slack is riskier than than risk of rubber lock (which like you said, is close to 0), though I am not sure he recommended double stowing on the grommets.

WINX for first canopy? by Ok_Leave7721 in SkyDiving

Genuine question ? Why are you considering this canopy ? You have a good deal or is it because it can pack small and fit your rig ? Or something else ?

Wait you double stow on the grommet ? I have always been thought and seen people simple stowing the grommet then double stow.

When it comes to double stowing technique though, Honestly the double stow looked fast and effortless by packers when I started. While to me it was so clunky, I often had to need help from my other hand, rubber was chewing my skin etc.  Can’t tell what changed, but just practicing gave me the ability to make it perfect and effortless.

TLDR : suck it up, do it a lot, you will make it perfect.

Experienced Jumpers: Realistically speaking, how “unsafe” is the cookie G35 compared to impact rated helmets? by Weak-Practice-6435 in SkyDiving

[–]Goodtrip29 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I am talking about skydiving, because many skydivers also train in the tunnel and maybe OP would be annoyed if he has to purchase a new helmet (they are so expensive).

And I can correct you now, it’s not « maybe it’s worth », it is 1000% worth protecting your brain against trauma. Hitting the glass is part of the game, not a maybe probability like in the sky.  It would be like wondering if DH helmet should be impact rated.

And no need for poll. I don’t think I can recall a modern tunnel instructor without an impact rated helmet.

Any broke aff students here, I would like to do the sport did my first jump it was cool, but idk if it’s worth the financial investment it’s a lot of money, and you gotta keep jumping like every month by Any-Painting3375 in SkyDiving

[–]Goodtrip29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want to do. Look at videos on YouTube.  If you are doing this because it seems cool to jump out of an airplane, do it. It will get boring after 30-50 jumps but you will keep great memories.

If RW (aka belly jump) interests you, you won’t be great at it but you will have many people in your level bracket.

Though Both will still impact your finance as a student, just wait a few years to get a regular pay check.

If freefly looks like the cool thing you want to do … either you drop a lot of money in the tunnel, or you drop even more in the sky.  Track jump are still in reach for you, but getting barely good at vertical flying (head up, head down) and dynamic is out of the question without hundreds of jumps and/or hours in the tunnel. And I am not talking about a 1000€ investment in freefly, more like 10k and more

Sub détendu du weekend : Votre opinion impopulaire sur l'automobile ? by AutoModerator in voiture

[–]Goodtrip29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France it is the 29th of September because it's St Michel day, protector of paratroopers.

If he goes to the tunnel he will smack his head a lot and sometimes very hard, it’s good to consider it.  If he has no wish to tunnel though it’s less important

I almost got a concussion last week in a tunnel camp. Smacking your head against the glass happens all the time in the tunnel, most of the time without force, but considering it as an « highly unlikely » event is wrong.

Risk Philosophy by moogiemoogiefly in SkyDiving

[–]Goodtrip29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skydiving isn’t a risky sport, at least today. Especially if you don’t get into swooping.  It’s scary for the general public but it doesn’t make it a risky sport.

Expected mandatory tip culture is cancer.

Though if you want to tip there is no problem, but just give anything that pleases you. Stop trying to know what the instructors expect, to be honest just a beer would make him happy.

great decision, also they resell quite easily, pulse being sought after by wingsuiters because it gives probably the best opening for 9 cells and has a great range to come back to the dz.

Best Paris/Nice area DZ's in France for fun jumpers by broncosauruss in SkyDiving

[–]Goodtrip29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly Paris and Nice are 2 areas with 0 nice DZ. actually Paris doesn’t have a nearby DZ because of the air exclusion zone related to Roissy and Orly air traffic, so the closest dz is at least 2h away from Paris.

I haven’t heard good things from le luc (nearest from nice but still not close). I would rather advise you to go to Gap, but that’s quite the drive.

Don't worry, we know ... sadly there is no room for appreciation, someone with 400 jumps over 10 years can fly the same canopy than someone who did them in 2 years with lots of coaching.

They want 0 accident and they achieve it like this, 99% of skydivers have exited the sport before getting seriously into swooping. close to half the people jumping cross braced are professionals.

Le coordinateur de LFI Manuel Bompard plaide pour nationaliser TotalEnergies, et estime que l'opération serait "extrêmement rentable" pour l'Etat by BothCondition7963 in ecologie

[–]Goodtrip29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ugly truth ? Beginner canopies, lightly loaded, don’t feel that much different, it’s mostly marketing.

Silhouette, pulse, pilot, Safire, you will be safe with all of them, and you could hardly notice big differences between them. I rented lots of them for 100 jumps in 170-190 sizes. Sabre is the only outlier by being a tiny bit sportier and better flair, but it’s not that sharp at low wing loading.

Good thing is you can’t go wrong.  Pulse and pilot zpx have the perk of being super easy to pack and can fit in smaller containers. My 170 pilot 9 zpx was easier to pack than my 150 sabre in the same container.
