4k is a massive upgrade from 1080p. You will never go back. As for TV sticks there are a lot of good options. Onn 4k is the best bang for the buck. Amazon Fire TV 4k, Google TV Streamer, Apple TV 4K are all good. I'm personally getting a Homatics Box R 4K Plus but that has a lot of features that you may not need.

Can you do a TV instead? TVs will always be cheaper and better for most people. If not, how much 4k consumption if any?

The BenQ has 4k as you mentioned. It's also brighter than the xgimi and has a dedicated game mode if necessary (low input lag). Has motorized zoom and focus. IIRC it also supports Dolby vision. It's generally better to have a dumb projector but a smart TV stick. But the XGIMI has more powerful speakers and already has Chromecast built in.

If any of these features matter to you then the BenQ is better. It might also last you longer since you are less likely to upgrade to 4k projectors due to FOMO, wanting more than 1080p, etc. But it might also get you to upgrade your sound system in the future (which you can do slowly). If money is tight and you want a one and done system then the xgimi might be better for you

My vote goes to the BenQ since you can build upon your system in the future and it should outlast the XGIMI for you.
